Just got my new(to me) '08 E350 home last night. Drove 1350 miles home from Tulsa, OK. Pulled the rear wheel cover and I see this.

My other E350, a 2004, has this style rear hub.

Whats up with that? They are both 15 passenger extended XLTs.

The top photo is of a much heavier rear end than your old one....IMO.

That is a Full Floater rear end. All E350 passenger models with Advance Trac RSC got that axle. Its a Dana 60 with 32 spline axles.

I like how you did your wheels on the older van. So far I just painted mine black, I had planned chrome acorn nuts and trim rings.

Its a Dana 60 with 32 spline axles. If you want some kind of traction aid in there, your choices are limited, all I've found that will work without changing axles is the stock TracLoc, Lock Right lunchbox stole or the ARB locker.

I had the rear bearings done on my '04 last week. The mechanic said he had to re-order them since my '04 axle is actually a 3/4 ton?

weird. I'm no pro but that's kind of strange. I think that's a lot lighter axle.

Way back when, all 3/4 ton - 1 ton vans, and even trucks all had full floaters, but then they started making these "light Duty F250's and E250's) and now even light duty E350? Like come on! I've seen a couple of newer Ford Diesel Ambulances in Florida fueling up, and one was missing one of those cheap ugly plastic hubcaps at the back, and it had a semi floating axle?????? I was like WTF? Really? Where has that old Built Ford Tough gone to?

A semi floating axle under a Diesel ambulance? Really?

Yes. But for your set up, anything less would be too little.
