truck starts with ignition in RUN position
2003 Ford F550 XL 4x4 drw superduty 7.3l turbo diesel
Truck wouldn't start. replaced starter (new). truck wouldn't start.
With truck in RUN position, we crossed the 2 big terminals on the starter and it fired up.
So ...
The yellow wire 'C' had continuity through to 'B' on the starter motor solenoid.
'A' had 12V with the ignition in the RUN position so we figured that the yellow wire 'C' was broke enough to not pass full current. We ran that blue wire down to 'B' on the starter motor, figuring it would be our new exciter.
Now the truck starts when you put the ignition in the RUN position.
What would you test to isolate the problem here ?
Thanks,
Pete

Rick,
Thanks for the reply. I thought that is where I would find the starter solenoid as well, on the inside of the passenger fender.
Is this not the starter solenoid?
If you read my original post, you will see where we found continuity from post 'C' on the solenoid shown, to post 'B' on the starter.
I'll have a better look on the fender, if that's where you are saying it is on the F550 7.3L diesel v8.
Any other ideas ?
Thanks,
Pete

Pete,
I was just guessing that the solenoid would be on the fender, but what I should have said was to replace the soleniod to see if that cures the prob. I was looking at the pic. of the starter and thought that was what you were referring to as the soleniod.
My mistake, I would still replace the solenoid though.
