That is what I tough getting rid of gassers about 10 years ago. My logic was that diesel can't be diluted like the S***ty gas we had in CA.
Than driving to other states proved otherwise.
Why would Salt Lake City had the best diesel in the country for the lowest prices?

Ok have a 2004 with178,000 with zero problems or issues. But I plan onkeeping truck a long time. Gets good mileage 17hwy 12 hwy pulling car trailer loaded. Has mild tune with a Daiblo pleased with it. Love to drive truck. Has K&N and that is all the mods. Looking to do the following: EGR Delete or up grade not sure which is the best? Replace oil cooler, screen,Blue spring up grade, drain pipe,o-rings,upgrade stand pipes, new glow plugs, maybe a new type Y pipe and down pipe, cat delete and clean and check turbo and maybe a turbo wheel up grade. What are your feelings of this stuff? I'll do it all myself at the same time, my goal is more mileage ease of towing. Truck not raced or driven over 85 mph our max speed here in Texas in some areas.
Waht are the pros and cons of the EGR delete and just a newer style? Will I get better mileage and or performance from the delete? What bout the CK lamp?
Thanks don't be shy but please explain why you suggest this or that so i'll know which way looks best. Thanks Guys and Gals!!!!!!!!

All good ideas. Difficult to improve fuel economy without just driving slower all around. I would ditch the diablo tune - they can contribute to blown head gaskets and are rough on the transmission. Atlas 40 FICM tune is one everyone likes - I don't have it though. Matt's tunes are for power not economy. My MPGs are embarrassing to admit.

I'm perhaps in the minority here, but I have never been an advocate of an EGR Delete. While diesels maybe exempt from testing, it is actually against the law in Texas (and in the continental US at least) to sell a vehicle that has had it's emission systems tampered with. I sure wouldn't buy one that has been tampered with knowingly. If I find out that it had been, it wouldn't be good for the seller. I'm not saying rather I agree or disagree with the emissions laws or not, so don't think that, I just like to make sure I'm kosher and don't have to worry about fines. I'm extremely risk adverse.

Rather or not you get caught or the buyer cares one way or the other doesn't make it any less illegal.

Having said that, I actually don't see a reason to even remove them. I had perhaps one of the worst years for the EGR system (2006 with a 2005 build) and not only did I have the original one that came with the truck with only 20 miles, but it was still good when I traded it in this past summer after 200k plus miles on it. Statistically speaking, as bad of a rap as they especially have in those years, my experience should be non-existent especially for that long.

As to MPG, hah. No offense to anyone here, but what other people claim (and how they claim to have gotten it) may not apply to another person. I don't put much stock at all into what people claim with regard to MPG and especially improvements in MPG coming from mods that are designed as performance enhancers.

I would strongly advise getting rid of the K&N intake though. They don't flow more air compared to stock until you get well outside the usable RPM range of a stock or just tuned vehicle. You would have to do something like modified injectors and/or a/m turbo to raise your peak rpm range in order to actually use that K&N.

Euroman is gaining momentum as a positive member of FTE.
I've had a 2005 with no mods and 60k on the clock for nearly 6 months and it seems pretty average. best is about 16 on long runs at 60 mph, worst about 14 around town or with the wife behind the wheel. couldn't work it out until she said she cruises at 80 - 90 on the Autobahn...

+1 on ditching the K+N filter. Forgot to mention that. You can pick up a stock air box on ebay for under $100 - it is the better safer way to go (protect your turbo).

Whoa. 20mpg!? On the 6.0?
I need to know more.
This is my first deisel and I'm not used to spending close to $3/gal for fuel. Thanks for the info. I'll research more

Even if that user truly saw that, no promises that you'll be able to see that without being able to match everything that that user did (this includes environmental factors as well).
