Rear Radio Controlls

Has anyone tried or done any work on the radio for the back seat riders? What I want to do is make the controls be independent from the head unit in the dash. I haven't dug into this yet so I'm not really sure what I might be getting my self into.

they are independant to an extent. But I think you have to use the headphone jack. There is a mention of this in the manual.

So, are you saying that the unit only works with headphones??
I thought that the unit controlled the rear speakers, (I have read the owners' manual) The unit in my truck does not seem to work if it does, indeed, control the rear speakers.

I know if you have an icon of headphones on the radio in front the back one can control everything. If you have no headphone icon on the one in the front the back one will not work at all. If I remember correctally you press bottons #3 and #5 at the same time, toggles back controls on/off.

Thank you!
I did try hitting the 3 & 5 buttons before, that didn't work, maybe the previous owners unhooked it or something.

They may be burned out if you've every spilt a drink against them as I did. Had to have the whole control assembly replaced. I think you can either energize these controls or turn them off, but that's all.

Rear Radio Controlls

When you plug the headphones you will listen to the same music that is playing in the readio until you select to use the rear controls, this will enable the rear system to work independently shutting down the rear speakers and only being able to listen via headphones. If the front speakers are playing the CD, the rear will be able to use the Radio only and vice-versa. For example, if the fron is using the CD player, front speakers will play the CD, rear speakers will shut down and headphones will play radio, you can see the tuner in the display (front unit) and you can also control volume via headphones. If rear wants to listen to CD then front must listen to radio. If both front and rear play the same band, rear speaker will be on too.

If headphones sign is in the display, rear can control the rear unit, to disable the rear controls (front only controls the radio/cd player) push 3 & 5 at the same time and icon will dissapear.

Hope this helps...

I never played with listing to both radio and CD between the different control panels.

My radio used to work until my son plugged in his headphones to listen to the rear radio. I pressed #3 and #5 together to get the headphone icon off my front radio display, but I still can't listen to the radio. Please help! I checked the speaker wires to make sure they were hooked up and everything checks out. I'm thinking its something simple.
