C4 to AOD swap

My truck has what I think is a c4 transmission. '84 4x4 and 302 engine.

How hard (I've done plenty of transmission swaps before just not on fords) is it to swap in an AOD trans? What parts do I need? I'm sure the bell crank is different but how will the AOD bolt in? Do I need a different x-member/mount? How about cooler lines, throttle valve cables or the transfer case. Were there different model AOD trans cases for the 4x4? I want to start searching now for one and all the necessary parts to do the swap. Any electronics I need to worry about? The truck is completely electronic less (sans ignition system).
Thanks!*

Your truck more than likely has a c6 transmission. Good luck finding a good used AOD, most all will need freshening up with a kit.

If you get this piece meal, it's going to cost you. Your best bet is to buy a donor truck and get all the stuff off it. You could put your old tranny in the donor and sell it. Your biggest problem will be the throttle linkage to the AOD. It has to be correct for the tranny to operate correctly and last.

Used to live in Kennett Sq. Anyway, I doubt you have a C4 as I didn't think they put them in 4x4. But, I may be wrong. Doesn't matter too much as the AOD bolts in where the C4 and C6, which I think you have, go. But, why do you want to put an AOD in there? They are considered by many on here to be light duty unless built up a bit. So, depending on what you are going to do with/to the truck that may not be the best choice.

The TV cable must be done right else you will burn up the AOD in a few miles. Lurk in some of the Mustang forums and/or carb sites to find out how and what adapters or carburetor is needed.

In the first year or two of the AOD, kick-down rods were used. You could go with that, but it's a pain to find the correct one.
