97 F-150 4x4 problem
I have already read the sticky at the top of the page concerning the different 4x4 fixes, but I have a slightly different issue with my truck. My truck operates fine in 4 low, and 4 high, but when I shift it into 2 high, it goes into 2 wheel drive, but it constantly wants to go back into 4 high. Now when i'm driving down the road the 4x4 indicator light comes on, and eventually my drive train makes an awful noise like it is trying to shift itself back into 4 high. I don't really know if the tranfer case is actually trying to shift into 4 high, or if the clunking sound is merely the front axle locking in.All I know is that either case can't be good on the truck, when i am driving on hard dry pavement.I had a Ford truck mechanic look at it, and he said that he slammed it up into 2 high rather firmly, and he had no further problems with it. However, as soon as I got the truck back, I'm going down the interstate, and noticed the 4x4 light start flashing a little on my dash, and sure as anything, it made the awful sound like it was trying to go into 4x4 again.I lubed the shifter linkage, but it didn't really help a lot.Does anyone know where I should start looking, or has anyone else had this same issue. Any help is greatly appreciated.

My F150 is doing the complet opposite It locks into 4 wheel drive then once i start moving it kicks right back into to wheel and shakes really bad If you look at the 4 wheel drive arm and the plastic clip on the bottom is worn out thats probably the problem either that or the linkage is worn out and its not functioning right thats what fixed my problem
