Engine ID

So, here goes. I have searched the forums, and I need some help. I have a '65 F250 with the following ID's:
Block - C5AE-A
Heads - C4AE-6090G
Intake - C7TE-9425-F
Exhaust - D2TE-9431-AA
I measured the stroke at 3.78" which I believe is a 390. The block could be either a 352 or 390? It does not have cross bolted mains, so I believe that 427 can be ruled out. I was under the impression that a 390 did not come stock with a "65. Do I have a mismatch of parts, or an engine from another vehicle that made it's way into my truck. Thanks.

Kurt

Thanks Mike. It does list the block as a '65 390. With what I've read on other posts ND states that the 352 was the only V8 offered in '65 for trucks. My guess is that I do not have the original engine.

Casting numbers don't help much for IDing your engine with the FE. With the measured 3.784" stroke it is a 390 (not much chance of it being a 427 ). You have quite a few different years on those parts so it would be a safe assumption that it isn't original to the truck, aside from being either rebuilt or at least some part swapping done. The engine code in the vin should tell you what came with the truck.

The block and heads might be original to a '65, but the intake is C7-- for 1967 and the exhaust is D2--, for 1972. So it's certain some fiddling has been done.

I'd vote mismash, as the spread from '64 to '72 would seem too far for a factory job.

Yea, a 352 came with the truck, and until I started poking around that is what thought I had in the truck. So if the cylinders are 4.05 and have not been overbored, then I have a real 390?

So I've got a mutt. I'm thinking about installing headers for an extra grunt. It runs pretty well right now except for the gas mileage. No matter I love my beautiful brick.

Yup, 4.05 and 3.784 is a 390. Nothing wrong with a little parts interchange. Headers will help most FE motors as the manifolds are possibly the worst ever made for performance.

Thanks. I'm going to have to save my money. I've been considering Hedman Elite's, and I won't be able to slip by the nearly $400 past the wife. It's an expensive passion, but so is the wife.

Mike that is not correct. There is the reverse 105 image blocks that many later 360s have, and I believe some of the exotic FEs don't have the 352 on them. That could be challenged.

Most FEs have 352 on the front would be correct but not all.

The Y block beat the FE manifolds hands down as the worst design.
