The indicator light at the top left of the dash comes on every ~60,000 miles to remind you to service the emissions control system. The light merely says EMISSIONS.
This is NOT a Check Engine light! The first time a computer-connected Check Engine light was used in these trucks was 1988.
You have one of three possible boxes that serve as a timer to control when that light comes on, and it can be reset with a paper clip. I forget the procedure but I think it's in this thread here:
