Thinking about getting my first diesel!(Got It!!!)

Hey everyone. Thinking about getting a my first diesel truck. Looking at a 2008 F250 XLT, crew cab, 4x4 with 54000 miles on the 6.4. The dealerships asking price is $28995. Is this a good first diesel truck and what do you think of the price? Thanks in advance for any input.

Bill

Here is a link to some pictures. Sorry about the background, was in a hotel parking lot in Springfield. Just drove the truck back home today. Very nice! More comfortable and better gas mileage than my 04 F150. Can't wait to tow the camper!

If its a Ford you wont regret it!

the 6.4 is pretty good. Price seems right.

More will chime in with more info.

I think my only concern at this point is that I think it is a job 1. I know there were some issues with the job 1's.

I'd recommend popping over to the 6.4L forum and picking the brains of the guys and gals that have been driving this motor for some time. It's not that you won't find answers here, but going to a more targeted audience will likely get you a faster and more focused response.

It can be a good motor if you are **** about your maintance.

Job 1's did have some issues..but I had two recalls on my job 3 too.

By now they should all be taken care of. It should also have the latest flash if you are buying at a ford dealer. If not then have them take it in for the flash..its free.

then towing with it and see how it does. Tow heavy and hard..this is a test.

Diesels can be a good buy if you use it for its intended purpose.

If you intend to use it to commute and your drive is just a couple of miles then you will begin to have problems. They need to work and get up to temps.

Would be used for towing camper during summer and work year round. Most days 50+ miles. Thanks for the input

Great! how heavy is the camper?

Do you do your own maintance? These are maint intensive and if you do your own then you will be fine.

Mainly 5K oil changes and 10K fuel filter changes

Would be doing maint. myself as well as any repairs I can. Camper is about 4800 lbs. maybe more when loaded for a long trip.

sounds like the ticket. Be sure to ask for an oasis report from the dealer.

Good advice.

Have you made an offer on the truck or test driven it yet?

I did drive it and it drives nice. I got them to drop about $1100 off the asking price. Can anyone tell me what the Oasis report looks like? I asked for it and was given what looks like a ticket for the work that was done on it when they got the truck in march.

An oasis is like a history report. Sounds like they gave you the most current info but not the complete history.

Basically a history of all warrenty work/recalls.

Most importantly it also gives you the status of the warranty. Start and end dates..if it has any warranty left or has been cancelled.

So got them down to $27500 on the truck. Tried to get a Ford ESP out of them to no avail. Wanted to charge me $3440 for the premium care to 100000 miles. I can get the same plan online for $1900 with a $200 deductible. Think I will go that route. Thanks for everyones input and hopefully I have alot of good years coming out of this truck!
