I messed up my bosses Ford F250 Diesel truck, not sure the year, but it has to be a 2010 or 2011. I was told the drivers side rear panel needs replaced, and painted to match the truck, and was wondering what that will cost? I don't want my insurance to go up so I want to pay for it in cash. I know that panel is probably $500.00, and paint probably $500.00, but am not that good since I don't do body work unless its my vehicle cause I don't care if its perfect as long as the paint is close to matching. It looked like a small scratch and dent, but I was told that in that panel it buckled somewhere so the whole panel needs replaced. I have bills to pay, and need to know how much this will cost so I can make everything work out.

 

I'd say double your guess and you'll probably be close when the dust settles. Do you think your insurance will go up that much?

Yes the panel might be 500(seems close) and paint it 500(seems close for materials) what about pulling the box off, then removing the old box side, then installing the new box side....... Labor?
Your estimate for a new box side should be closer to 2000.

 

Unfortunately, the price of paint & body work has gone up considerably.

 

I live in PA, I don't know how much my insurance would go up, but wouldn't it stay up? I was never in an accident, and this didn't involve another vehicle. My boss told me to move his truck, and I forgot the trailer was on the back, and jack knifed it. Also first time driving a truck with a trailer, and of course it had to be a nice looking truck, and not a junker.

 

You were in the course of your work duties as directed by the boss. His vehicle insurance and/or business insurance should cover it. If you feel bad then you could always pay the deductible.

 

Yes, but he didn't want me to turn around. He just wanted me to move the truck a little. His son came out, and told me to turn around so the other side of the trailer was facing the other way so we could unload the trailer easy without the spare tire being in the way. The way his son said it was for me to drive around the place we where at, but the trailer would've been facing the same way unless I turned around, and I chose a tight space to do it cause I forgot the trailer was on the truck, and I didn't know you could do damage to a truck with a trailer on it. Everything was fine until his son came out, and told me to move the truck. I just want this resolved the cheapest way possible cause I bought a truck I couldn't afford for working in construction cause its a nice truck, and I thought it would pass inspection, but I was wrong, and now have a $5,000 truck that needs painted, and a bunch of other stuff, and on top of that about $4,000 on credit cards to pay off. I was fine until I started working in construction. Most of that stuff I bought was tools, but I did buy a new laptop to resell, and make a few hundred dollars, and a broken vacuum to fix up to help pay bills.

Agreed, post 6 says it best. I would never expect my employee to pay for damage to a truck in the course of doing their job. I could see offering to pay for the repairs if you were negligent, but this certainly doesn't sound like negligence, it was an accident.

 

I don't think that would go over well. I hate when I bring stuff up, and people waste more time then is needed saying stuff. Like giving reasons why I need to pay for the damage, getting angry, ect.

I am a sub contractor too which probably changes things.

 

Cost is probably more than you think. Replacing a bed side is easily in excess of $1000 plus without paint. Depending on the color, as some colors like reds cost alot more, your material cost is probably a couple hundred. It might be cheaper to buy a new take off box in the same color and install it yourself. I think it needs to go thru insurance. Last year I swapped a bed on a superduty, but it was the wrong color. After pricing getting it painted (the quote was $800-$1000) , i did extensive internet searches for craigslist ads and found a new take off in the color I needed. I travelled a couple hundred miles with a trailer and bought it, and then sold the other bed on ebay.

 

You pay insurance specifically for this type of thing. That's why you pay your premium, to cover events like this. My truck rolled down a slight hill and t-boned a van last fall, causing around 2 grand of damage, and guess what? My insurance went up a whopping eleven bucks.

 

the boss just told me he was going to use his deductable, but has 2 claims, and a $500.00 deductable so I am paying cash since I just got the insurance 2 months ago. I am really good at estimates cause the bill is just below $1,000.

 

Seriously, why even bother with insurance then? I'd love to write you a policy and take your money if you promise never to make a claim.

 

Tell the boss it is a work truck in a work environment, expect some dents and scratches and move your own damn truck next time you lazy ****.
