Fuel/water separator leak

Hey all,

Went out a few minutes ago to drain the separator and when I flip the lever fuel comes out of pretty much everywhere lol. It's been doing it since I bought the truck it's just getting a little worse and becoming an annoyance. It comes out of the lever hole and around the screws on the bottom. I haven't tried to tighten them yet considering it leaks from above those bolts I wouldn't think that would be it. I've heard of O rings going bad in there? Any idea? Serious issue or not?

You can get a gasket kit from ford, its actually a good idea to pull the face plate off and clean it out every now and then.

The kit isn't really expensive and doing it is rather easy, except for the location lol. But it gives you a chance to clean everything out.

I know this is probably a dumb question but when cleaning, is it just a finger job to get little stuff out or maybe use fuel treatment and wash it out?

Both. Use your fingers to remove paraffin like goop substance. Then use a spray cleaner to finish it up. Allow it to dry before closing up. Gasket kit and new sensor is the way to go. I think I spent less than $50 for spray, gasket and sensor. This is an easy job.
