Just got back from a week at Turtle lake, It was the first time I pulled both the fifth wheel and boat together. I was happy with the way the truck handled all the weight, I figure it was around the 11,000lb mark. The truck has the max trailer tow package which gives it a max capacity of 11,200lbs. I had no trouble pulling the load at 110klm and averaged 11mpg for the trip with about 100klm of the 600 driving empty around the lake.
It was a little hard on the nerves for the first time especially driving through cities with all the lenght behind me. I know you guys with your 1A will laugh at me for that one but for me having about 45 feet behind the truck made me a little nervous.
It is't something I would want to do for a weekend trip of camping, to much work hooking everything up and then the bike rack has to come off the trailer and the bikes get put in the boat with a lot of blakets to protect the seats.
I`m glad your trip went without a hitch, I often wondered how the 5.4 was for pulling that heavy a load.
Morris, have you had your eyes checked lately? The man clearly stated he was towing a lot of weight this past weekend. Towing involves hitches. He also clearly stated that he was towing tandom... Not one hitch, but 2!!!!
Sorry, took my smart *** pills too early this morning...
Glad you had a good time Marlon, Thats great mileage for towing that much weight!!

There was times I towed a 53 foot tridom with pipe sticking out the back end about 25 feet. Not as long as a superbee, but I totally get where the length messes with ya!
I used to occasionally run 70 plus feet, not alot of fun in the city. House trailer were the worst as the wheels are closer to the middle instead of at the back.
I just got back from Waterton, Ab last night. Going up and down those mountains was a good work out for the truck with a 26' trailer. It handled just fine but I don't think I would want to pull anything bigger with my truck in those kinds of conditions. I haven't figured out the mileage yet but is wasn't to terrible considering the headwind we plouged going out there.

That has to be some of the most brutal westerly winds there - I used to truck into there all the time headed to Washington / Oregon. its nutz!
How long did that trip take? Are permits and transit insurance required by law when using a tractor to tow the trailer?
12 hours one way, you need over length and overwidth permits, no additional insurance was required. Sandi made sure we had everything, and it was very easy to get teh permits, adn very easy to do.
