97 f450 wrecker 60" cab to axle (7.3 PS.
i have owned this truck since new,has 289,000 miles, its a little sluggesh at first go, if it hasnt been started for a couple days it will smoke for a while till warmed up, but good after that.ats transmission 4 years ago, front fenders getting rusty, wrecker bed needs a lot of work, cant see selling it ,for what i think it will take to get it back into great running condition. So i just finished king pin replacement, and now working on steering componants, tie rods etc.... next will be a rusty fuel tank that leaks, has two, mid ship and rear. And a new rad.4 years ago!! Looking for a little guidance in regards to, inharent issues that should be looked at, such as ,can the turbo be torn apart and cleaned ,, is an aftermarket intercooler possible,etc... the exhaust is factory never been touched, and after warrenty nothing has everbeen needed repaired except an occasional injector or glow plug. an. gonna be a long term proccess, can any one help, it would be greatly appreciated, Thanks

It probably needs some glow plugs and injector work at this time. New injector orings if nothing else. You can talk to one of our sponsors, Jim at Rosewood Diesel, he can check them out and repair if necessary, and is very reasonable on prices.
Aftermarket IC is possible, lots of us have them. I'm assuming there isn't a lot more crap in the way on the 450.
Exhaust, lots of options, new downpipe is the first thing, and a cat delete if you can.
The turbo can be torn apart and repaired if necessary, check the fins on the intake for chipping or play in the wheel, some side to side is ok as long as it doesn't touch the housing, no in or out play should be there.

Yes, the 6 liter one is bigger, but either will work. I've got a 6.0 one on mine. You will need to get pipes from a super duty 7.3, and will still involve a little fabbing. You need an early 99 spyder too, can be kind of tough to come by.
