Because i got enough money pits already, and nowhere to put a graham. I wish against all sense i could get it, '39 sharknoses are gorgeous. Never thought I'd ever see one at all, let alone on craigslist. Imagine that with a jag v12 and suspension in there, callback to the days of the double six speedsters. Hot damn.

That is the right tailgate for a 51 (or 52) Canadian built Ford. Saw some for sale at a swap meet in Ontario about 10 years ago.

That super rare tailgate must justify the asking price!

Your truck is a special case. Many people looked at your truck, in it's past condition, and saw an old rusted vehicle. We looked at your truck and saw a solid foundation for a good build. But YOU looked at your truck and saw family history. That is priceless. And irreplaceable.

Hey Ken, thanks for the kind words. You've got a long history with your truck too, and so you understand about old trucks like ours that we grew up with. I hope the next time we meet at a Truckstock, you'll have your truck along! I'm planning on Abe's Pennsylvania event next fall, but may not be able to swing Tennessee (although I would like to squeeze in both gatherings).

A lot of value in family history with a vehicle. My truck was in worse shape than Jim's when I started on it 30 years ago. I pretty much grew up in the truck during my formative years with my dad. My truck should have been carted off to the scrap yard. I replaced way larger percentage of the truck that what is left from when my dad owned it. The only parts left of the original truck is the frame, axles, radiator, transmission and dash gauges. Literally everything else has been replaced. Plus all of the time I spent on it.

Hi Bob- I hope our two old trucks can make an epic journey together to a Truckstock one of these years. Bob knows about my truck because he transformed the front clip. We are about 5 years in on his work, and everything he did is holding up well. Bob also introduced me to FTE.

You and a few other people think they were gorgeous, but most people hated it.

Amos Northrop an independent stylist who worked off and on for the Graham Brothers. He styled the 1932 Graham Blue Streak, which was a hit.

This was the first car with skirted front fenders, within a couple of years all makes of cars had them.

But when Northrop styled the 1938 Graham, known as the "Shark Nose" sales dropped to almost nothing. Graham was in trouble financially, never made another car after 1941.

Many people considered the Shark Nose the world's ugliest car, that is until the Pontiac Aztec came out.

They seemed to have been on the same wavelength as the '39 *****'s to me, and frankly i think the Graham looks better/further developed that the ******, yet the ****** sold well enough and is kindly remembered and the Graham is a forgotten footnote.

But then again, the thing i most desire over all else is a Doble steam car, so i suppose i may just have a unique sense of taste.

Also tangentially, i was under the impression that Loewy's Hupmobile design was the first streamlined/skirted car.

Graham had skirted front fenders first, in 1932. Hupp didn't have them until 1934.

Loewy was an industrial designer, in the auto biz...worked for Hupp, but mainly worked for Studebaker. Some of his Studebaker examples: 1939 Champion, 1947 & 1953 cars, 1963 Avanti.

But while Loewy had an artists eye, he couldn't draw a line, so he hired it done.
