fuel leak at inspection cover?

my poor truck is leaking fuel (9 mpg)

i crawled under and its coming from between the starter and the engine (inspection cover?)

there looks to be a gasket on the side that is missing on the bottom and lets the fuel leak out.... is a gasket required for here?

From what I understand most fuel leaks come from the valley check the hoses on the fuel lift pump and the fuel filter housing check the big nut on the back of the lift pump there are a few sensor that are on the fuel filter housing that can leak. Clean the valley up really good and get a brite flash light and start the truck and see If you can pin point the leak there is also a weep hole on the bottom of the lift pump that can leak when the pump wears out

The problem is in the valley. It has a drain port in the back of the valley. The pumps have weep holes and will leaking when they start going out.

As mentioned above the leak must come from the valley, maybe the oring of the cap of the cannister is wrong, pinched or simply loose. There are other common places where the leak can come, the first is the fuel pump, other the fuel restriction sensor in the cannister, other the fuel lines and also the cannister itself by tiny pineholes in the bottom.

Honestly draining it could have got the gunk out and gave the system more pressure. This would put more strain on an already weak part and made it go the rest of the way.

I forgot but also the drain valve can leak by itself for bad o-rings.

well i poped the hood today while it was spewing out the bottom and found something!

the fuel filter housing was leaking out the top, took out the filter, made sure the o ring was on right. tightened it back up and wala,no more leak today!

Great! I loveee easy fixes!

Edit: Oh and I dont know if you do what I do, but that stupid "direct injected turbo diesel" plastic cover that sits in the way. You can take that off and leave it off... it helps when trying to eyeball problems

And the winner is ...........
Glad to hear that you fixed up and no more leaks.

PS: BTW there is no any gasket on the side that is missing on the bottom.
