Replacing switch on door jam

Need to replace the small door switches that control the interior lights, dome lights and interior/exterior cargo lights. Looks simple enough by just backing off the nut that holds them in place. Can I then pull it out and just plug in a new switch, or do I push it through the hole and have to make the connection from behind the jam. Hope my question is not to confusing, but felt this was something I could handle and needed some guidance before I got into the project. Thanks !!

Are we dealing with a 94 model or older? Pin switches in the doors typically come out of the jamb with the wiring attached. A new one can be spliced onto the existing wires (newer models have an actual connector making it even simpler). In either case, they will come out forward into the door opening sometimes with just barely enough slack in the wires to do what you need to replace the switch.

Thank you for your reply. My Bronco is a '94 (EB 5.8) Am going to pick up a door jam switch and hopefully, it will have a connector. Thanks also for the tip on the lack of slack in the wire. Have seen some pics on sites that have them available. Noticing the threads, do I need to be concerned about adjustment as far as depth in the opening.

I would mark the old switch with a Sharpie before removing it that way you can hold the old one up to the new one and transfer the mark so you know what depth you need for your door. Not every truck/door is going to be identical so a little prep will save you a lot of headaches.
