The Australian Chapter DICTIONARY and THESAURUS of English- derived LOCAL AUSSIE SLANG
#16
Aussie slang,, now for the rhyming stuff,,,,lol
G'day Greywolf.
Us Aussies love to rhyme our slang as well, for instance;
Dog and bone = phone
Bag of fruit = suit
Dog's eye = meat pie
Noah's arks = sharks
Sky rocket = pocket
Smash and grab = cab
Frog and toad = road
Captain Cook = look
Ham and eggs = legs
Molly the monk = drunk
Cheese and kisses = missus
Porkie pie = lie
Joe Blake = snake
Pat Malone = alone
Aristotle = bottle
Billy lids = kids
oh yeah and
Septic tank = yank.
So here's something you can translate.
The "cheese and kisses" caught a "smash and grab" and hit the "frog and toad" the other day. She took the "billy lids" as well.
She made me empty out the "sky rockets" in my "bag of fruit" to give her the fare.
They caught me "molly the monk" with that horny "septic tank" chick. I knew shouldn't have taken a "captain cook" at her.
Wouldn't have been so bad if me "aristotle" hadn't have been empty.
Anyway, we rarely use more than one rhyme in a sentence, but I thought I'd take a bit of poetic license,,, lol,,, make a few sentences up for ya.
I must say though, it's a bit of a dying art these days, but it's fun to watch the expression on peoples faces when they figure it out.
Cheers, Ron.

Aussie rhymin slang
HA HA,,, well done. You got the hang of it quick smart.
There's heaps my of em too. You could really bamboozle some one if they didn't now the meanings of em.
Plates of meat = feet
Dad n Dave = shave
etc etc.
I love em. Use em where I can, and when I remember, but usually only when I have time to explain them. It's easy to leave some one for dead during a conversation like that,,,lol.
Cheers.

Jus curious.. Us yanks (septic tanks) are almost totally against removing the bed for a tray... Even when the bed is rotten with rust! But you blokes seem to do it e en when totally unnessecary! Why dosent someone down there figur a way to send a conex box of beds to our rust belt states... You could get $1000 US or bettrr for each! You could get 20 of them in a 40' container.....maybe more?

If I'm not mistaken, we only had style side bodies and tray backs released here. No step sides. Nearly all step sides trucks are private imports from the US or they were fitted after market over here.
The tray backs were popular here coz you can get more on them I guess.
F trucks were one of the most widely sold small trucks in the country for years.
I'm not sure, but I think a lot of early F trucks were assembled here, from US parts. The trays were easier and more cost effective, to source here. Some might even have come across as cab chassis, again the tray easy enough to source here.
F trucks were also used a lot buy Government Departments here. Usually fitted with lockup bodies, cupboards etc. A lot of these bodies were removed to refit to replacement trucks, and replaced with a tray when the truck were sold to the public.
I must admit, there are a few style side bodies on the market from time to time. That might also stem from the fact that trays are being fitted because they are generally more durable and less prone to rust and dents.
That's my guess anyway.

I take it "TRAY" is what we would call a "FLATBED"
Here's a snap of what's going on with my quarter ton...
https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...-roadster.html
Here's a peek at the new mill:
Overbored 351W with matched Edelbrock intake - unknown cam
CID unknown (prior owner being sought for info)
Total miles on engine: FIFTY!
(and the insides I saw reflected it)
This engine was built for a 1964 Mustang project that was ruined by rust cancer of the chassis. Thereafter the engine sat on a crate in a loft, until the owner sold it me through a mutual friend....
And this is what she's going into:
yeah - my old four banger quarter ton....
*Feel free to ask me in a PM what exactly "CFY" means....
CLUE: "Crazy ******* Yank"
To fit the rims and rubber this will need, I may have to weld stepside fenders (which is actually a GM term, I think) to the existing bed.
I have in mind "Sportsman" tyres...
~ Sort of a "DUALLY" or "Street Sweeper" look - wide at the back, but covered by fenders to make it legal
By the way, the only hassle with building a flatbed is that you have to not use up your load capacity in timber and steel to build the bed -
IT WEIGHS TOO!
I have in mind my old truck - an F-250 freighted with a ton of load that was built badly
(*Aftermarket Flatbed)
*I'm well aware that I am ahead of you in the day - shall talk to you tomorrah if I may!
Good found may be your steak and eggs!
G-day M8
