Very rough idle intermittently

Would appreciate suggestion as to how to find and fix the cause of a very rough idle condition I've experienced occasionally the past few weeks. Seems to happen after I've slowed down from highway driving with my camper on. Hasn't happened yet in city driving or without camper. Guages at normal position. Idles very rough with Rpms down to 3-400 almost seems like its going to stall. Once accelerated runs smooth.
Truck has 90k miles, oil and filter changed every 3000 miles since new using Ford dealers and use an Edge Evolution at level two all the time. Only upgrades listed below.
Could someone expert pls give me a list of possible causes from simplest that I could try to fix to more technically challenging so I know I'm not being snowed by mechanic.
Thanks for your help.

Sure sounds like the Under Valve Cover Harness (UVCH) is loose...look here.

Here is a thread with pictures and a fix that is cheap...you can do this yourself.

Thanks Neal for suggestion but has never happened except at idle, after highway driving with camper and didn't see a check engine light. I was unable find an exact same problem description among posts after searching the site for some time.

That is where I would start BEFORE taking the truck into a repair shop...lots of folks have had all kinds of problems due to a loose UVCH and if it gets into a shiop, they can throw a lot of YOUR money at finding a fix. Do you have an AE or a way to scan for codes? Can you turn the chip off? Does it run the same when turned off/unplugged?

Thanks Neal. I used the EE to check for codes for first time ever and it showed a P1211. Don't know how long its been there or if related to current problem. Understand can also get that code using programmer and with camper on putting pedal to the floor going up a mountain pass so to not anger the drivers behind which I've done occasionally. Normal driving with very light foot. I'll put stock program back to see if that makes any difference but won' t be using camper again for a few weeks.
I'm somewhat handy and have a few tools but don't know if valve covers are within my ability. Also under stand one should look at doing glow plugs at same time which seems to have complications with oil leaking onto piston.

Valve covers are within your ability if you can remove nuts and bolts and use a multimeter...at least ohm out the 9-pin connectors and see if the problem is the UVCH (at the same time you will find out if the glow plugs are heading south on you).

is it possible the oil pump could be going out and causing both issues? or maybe the IPR sticking a little

Sadly I can not help with the problem but just to say I think I get the same thing here in the UK with mine, although I don't nearly stall, just up and down idle for maybe 5-10 seconds after coming to a sudden stop or near stop after using power pedal hard or motorway/highway driving.

Due to this my entire cab rocks kinda side to side if you know what I mean?

Mine does it much more noticeably when hauling my 5th wheel and does worry me, especially if I pulling up behind a traffic jam, because as I stop the truck tries to lurch forward as it peaks its RPM, so have to stand on brake pedal.

I can get mine to do this without hauling, just revving it when warm can make it idle up and down for 5-10 seconds then be fine???

I'm wondering? I too have a Edge Evolution (one with the 4 digital read outs) could it be the tuner?? I never recall this problem before the tuner, but then again I only owned it a few weeks before install.

I know most go with DP tuner and rain hate on anything else, but I like the Edge, but would be good to hear how you get on with tuner unplugged.

Just for info I'm running tow tune as I only really use truck to pull 5th wheel and showing no codes or light on.

Anyone else have any suggestions as to possible causes and how to investigate them? Please?

Have you tried checking your fuel pressure. How old is the fuel filter? maybe the intank screens are getting clogged.

like you suggested...the next time you take the camper try doing it in stock to see if you get the same results.

Thanks again for suggestions Shawn. Drove truck today in city with EE in #2 out any sign of problems. Same as occurrence two weeks ago. No problems when driven in city and without camper. Seems to happen after a couple of days of driving with camper on, after driving on highway 50-55 mph for at least 10-15 minutes then braking sharply to almost 0mph. Tank filled day before so lots of fuel. Will see about UCVH when I can to see if thats it? Failing that will find someone with an AE to check it out.
Appreciate everyones help!!!!

Should have said no new codes either. Will check for codes if it happens again.
