Nice! I say work it until it has 350k, then 'retire' it to winter duty!

Fuel tank addition

I put a 40gal aux tank in the bed and just got around to hooking things up. Yes, its a little redneck looking at the moment but I didn't want to make things final until I had a chance to test things.

So here is what I came up with so far.

Truck vibrates bad

I noticed after I got back from my first run that my truck was vibrating pretty bad like some thing had been thrown out of balance. Keeping in mind that my transfer case still leaks and might be dry I checked that to see if it still had fluid and it did. So the next morning I took the truck to the tire shop to see if I had a balance problem. Sure enough all four tires were way off and needed doing.

Mine vibration when cold. Need replace 3 injectors again. I just replace 3 injectors couple months ago.

Saw that picture of frame where you hook fuel pump. That was NASTY rusty. Have you thought of go to Harbor Freight by cheapo air gun painter and get rustoleum paint then spray all frame to try slow down rust.

I plan doing mine when I had enough $$.

That's nothing. You should see the box over the wheel wells, its a cheap truck that I got for next to nothing. Any care that it's got since I bought it, is probably ten times what it had before. If it pays off I might stick a new box on it and maybe a transmission that has been all tuned and tweaked for the job. My first load took me right through BTS's back yard so it will see how things go.

That bed wasn't that terrible if compare to our old 2 f250s with rot beds.

I should be happy with my 00 F350 that I bought for $1500 it was NONRUNNING. Replaced 3 injectors now I need replace another 3 injectors that cost $400 for rebuilt injectors. Who know how long it been running on empty tank could ruin injectors FAST.

Do you had AE scanner so you can see what trans temp when you notice strange. Mine is randomly but need new fluid. that $140 in fluid

There repocast auction had 00 F350 like your with 637K miles it sold for $3700. I think you able see 400K before rot.

Nope, no scanners or gauges just what Ford sent it with. I might add a few later on as money permits

Paper work!

Well, I guess today I will set up files to track fuel and truck expenses to make sure this venture is not getting out of control. I hate paper work.

On the plus side finally got a chance to fill my aux tank and check to see if the pump and plumbing worked like I hoped it would. Every thing worked just like it was supposed to.

Transmission cooler installed

Well today I finished cleaning up the a/c condenser and then I started installing the transmission cooler. I found a 30 row plate style cooler from an old plow truck and just stuck it in the parts washer for a few hours to rinse out the old atf. Not bad for $25.

Here's a real crappy picture of it.

I tried to get as much of the A/C condenser cleaned up as possible. This area was total flat when I started.

Mine had 215K it bad. Too many dents and flat to straight again. It only $97 for new one so I am saving $ until Spring time.

Do you had another transmission cooler between intercooler and AC condenser?

Yes, the truck came with the heavy duty transmission cooler 'package' but after a lot of reading here it seemed like a good addition for the work I'm doing. My next task will be to change over to Mobil 1 atf now that the filter has been done. Maybe a transmission temp gauge too, the cooler may need to have a bi-pass valve added for the winter months. The truck is off to a good start so will see how things go this week. I'll just be praying the transmission is a good one and holds together!

I thought they had bi-pass on tran line to transmission.

If I were you Time for invest in new transmission soon. 240K miles is alot so try drive gentle. I don't think mine would made to 250K possible.

I think work has been done to trans before but I don't know what. I've yet to have an oasis report made out yet but I just planned on having a failure there any ways just to be prepared. I've got some back up options just in case the truck goes down so I'm just hoping for the best at this point.

Got a few more loose ends tied up with the truck before its second run out on the highway. Took the truck to a shop and had them pull the tail section off of the transfer case to reseal it and while they were at it they put in a new tail shaft seal due to its age and a few cracks they saw. No more transfer case leaks!

Also went and purchased a few quarts of Mobil one atf and changed out the power steering fluid. After I started pumping fluid out it was clear that it needed to be changed, brown, brown and brown. Unfortunately the pump still has a little growl to it but it seems like most Fords I've ever been around do this. Maybe it's just time for a new pump? Things still steer and stop well so I guess I'll move that to the back burner for now.

The SES light keeps coming on so after checking the vin # @ Ford.com I can see that it has never been in for a cps update. It would be nice if that fixed my SES light. Ford scanned it a week ago and found no codes. Not sure what is going on there but it makes me wonder. Truck has stalled a few times but always restarted so it does make you think of a cps.

Well no wife and kids at the house today so I think I will take the truck to town and wash the mud and grime off from this last weeks haul. Maybe I'll get a jug of simple green and do the motor while I'm at it.

Been awhile since I updated this post. I went to have the trans filter changed and the yo-yo's that did it left half the hardware loose. Ended up pumping out around four of five qts of atf, needless to say the transmission didn't last long. Now I have to get it rebuilt like it or not. It's a shame that you pay some one to do a job and they refuse to stand behind there work.
