NV 271/273 output shaft lateral play, is this to much?

Ok, so I'm narrowing down the sources of a slight vibration upon light deceleration. Like going over a choppy road. The rear end was completely rebuilt, rebuilt entire rear driveshaft, repacked slip yolk... now I'm at the transfer case. I know there is some rotational play in these units, but how about lateral play. I have about .010" of lateral play in the output shaft. Is that right? The manual doesn't specifically address this specification.

I've got 243k on it right now. It was worse than that prior to rebuilding the double cardan joint, I figured I'd retest for Sts&Gigls. I know at the outer most part of the transfer case there is a needle bearing, and the actual ball bearing is further in the X-fer case. I'm probably going to do the bearing/seal thing too, as I've had the Ford "update" for this transfer case for close to 8 years now , bout time I put it in.
