Question Question for the webmaster

My signatured had been changed by someone and said something to the effect of "Ford Vehicle Content Only". So I changed my signature accordingly. That's fine. I wasn't totally aware of the guidelines and now I am a little more clear. I had no problem changing that. I guess my question is this... If I had to remove a part of my signature, why is it that I see people's signature's that have absolutely nothing to do with Ford trucks or this site? I realize that there are many people on this site and you have a busy job with this site, but song lyrics and such in a signature? I guess I wouldn't care but I saw someone with song lyrics (and nothing else) in their signature AFTER I had to change my signature and remove 2 phrases. I am not trying to be difficult or anything but I am curious. Thanks for your time!

I understand,
Because there 100,000 users and we can't get them all at the same time.

We mostly get them when someone replies to a post.

This way we get the most recent users to the site.

Who knows one day the Sig feature might be totally eliminated

I hope the signature does not get eliminated but I see your side of the story too. You are just doing your job. Thanks for the quick reply!

The content includes :

Your basic truck description.
Year,Model,Engine,Trans,Trim line,Body Style.

If a user puts the mod's back in their sig FTE will deny the use of the signature for that user.

We know what we are doing and we're being as fair as possible.

People don't care if you have a chrome ashtray or a K&N filter

People don't care if you have a part's truck.

To us ...it is a interpreted as an AD.

If you want to let someone know about your Mod's, then talk to them about it.

That clears up some of it, but what about a link or something to a group specifically targeting a certain year or model of Ford trucks? I have started a group on MSN for 42-47 Ford trucks, and would like to know if I can place a link to it in my sig.

Some of this is outta hand - My sig has now been deleted twice.. and now i can not even go to my profile page. Give me a break.

I have a great idea.. arn't moderators supposed to help out enforce the rules and such? Why don't yall check their sigs out first ... since they should be model FTE users.. right? Some of their sigs go off talking about all kinds of none Ford stuff. How do most of us even know there are new rules about sig length and content unless we are first either warned by e-mail or asked to change, or if the moderators can't even keep their sigs within the regulations?

This is why I mentioned to FTE user's way back to Check the site announcements every time they log on.

Everything that administration does is listed in the site announcements forum.

This thread is a *Year Old*,it seemed that
People just didn't seem to care.

So..... we change it ourselves.

We shouldn't have to hold anyone's hand here, most of our user's are adults.

Moderator's sig's will be changed also.

They will still be able to have FTE ,Motorhaven,Guideline's in their sigs though.

Has FTE been altering the formatting of the sigs? The text itself hasnt been altered in mine, but it appears to be much more condensed. I liked having it all one one line, and its now being shown on three lines? Not a big concern, but I noticed it while reading a reply to someones post.

Eventually, all of the sigs will be edited or wiped out.

I am watching to see which Longtime user's bring their sigs in line within the sig guideline's on their own.

If they don't within a reasonable timeline, (It's been a week today) then I will edit them.

Hey, I just thought I'd share my opinion. I completely understand why you implemented this rule. I had mine modified by someone, but realize it was my own fault for not reading up on all the guidelines, I just don't like how it was said by Mil1ion: "People don't care if you have a chrome ashtray or a K&N filter." Sometimes when you're reading posts, for instance in the exhast forums, it is nice to be able to see what exhausts others have done by reading their sig's and not having to go into their gallery to find out or have to ask and wait sometimes several days for a reply. But I agree that it can get out of hand and agree with what you are doing, I just don't like it when people generalize what people want, unless of coarse you have taken a poll or have facts to back it up. You guys run a great site and do a good job at keeping everything in line, so don't think I'm really upset. Like I said, it was my fault for not paying attention to guidlines.

Bottom line is we dont have the bandwidth to "waste" on signatures that are not necessary. We try to do our best and accomodate everyone, but no one will ever be completely happy. We would let people have their sigs that way if it were possible, but it's not right now atleast, so I don't get what the big deal is....oh well I guess.

Okay, I guess I can understand the bandwith issue. But if there is a concern over bandwith, why is it that in every thread somebody has to type in "yep" just to get their post count up? Every thread seems to have either "yep" or something totally useless like that.

Ya, that is a problem of people making useless posts. We try to cut down on them as best we can. If I see a user with a habit of it after searching through their posts, I drop them a quick e-mail. We are constantly working to make FTE a better place for all...
