FUEL FLOAT...cant i just buy it by itself!
Hi all,
I cant seem to find a fuel float without the sending unit for my truck. 95 f250.
I dropped my front tank so i could get better acess to some frame work i am doing.
The front gauge wasn't working so i figured i would see why, i opened the tank up and, well that explains it..there was no float on the sending unit arm, go figure. But there is the eyelit that a brass style float would go into.
I cant find a part for the truck anywhere but i did find 65-73 BRASS FUEL TANK FLOAT
Does anyone know where to get the right part or if this one will work? I'm sure i could make this work but would rather get the part for the truck.
The pump still works and i don't have the 100 something bucks to drop on a new sending unit.
Anyone have any experience in this area?

Is it floating around in the tank? I had a new sending unit that quit working. I bought another one (this is after a year or two of replacement) and when dropped the tank I found the float came off. I replaced it anyhow since I had it down and just kept the old part... But thats just a possibility. You said you didnt have the money for it but im thankful I can buy a sending unit/pump combo for about 112 bucks. The pump alone for my car is over 200.00.

I have one working gauge, the pump is still working, if i don't find a float i will just put it back in.

Hit the local junkyard or a auto repair place and look/ask around for the solid foam(or what ever it is) floats and adapt it to your sending unit. I did that as I got tired of those brass floats leaking and sinking. The float I used came from a Ford car. With a little bit if bending the sending unit's wire to adapt the new float and a few more bending adjustments(make mesurments from old setup before munging it up like I did causing more time figuring it out) I have no more problems. On my truck I did put about a 5 gal resivor of gas when the Guage reads on the "E" mark(more incentive for my wife NOT to run out of fuel LOL)

if you can find a parts counter man that is willing to look it up in a book, the float is available.
BUT the current crop of parts counter men are lazy bartstards that refuse to lift a finger to help a customer. if it is not listed in the computer, it is no longer available.
lucky for me, i have very good countermen at my local dealership, and the dealership owner is not a thief, so he don't care if his countermen sell a $10 float over a $200 pump/sender Assembly
my guys believe it is better to help customers and get them to come back than it is to rip them off for a quick one time sale.

Hi guys - have the same problem of a dead fuel gauge with my 2008 F250 V10. Anyone know a recent part number or picture of the float so I might be able to get one before I pull the tank and find no one has one locally?? Thanks in advance!!
Just realized what thread I posted this is in and will re-post to the Super Duty forum threads. Sorry.
