the farther along i got into the rebuild, the more i started being concerned about what i was seeing. after seeking advice amongst friends i decided to haul the block down to an old timer that used to rebuild ford engines in the 60's to get his advice. he looked at it and told me it needed to go to a machine shop even by the loosest of standards. (cylinder #1 was .015 outside of tolerance at the top of the stroke)

since a lot of you will know the pro's and con's of both rebuilds and crate engines i will spare you the thought process except for the deciding factor. i had saved up the money for either a rebuild or crate engine but i was itching to drive it. little did i know that the state was itching for its inspection tax. i mean fee of which i was out only 1 month, so luckily i had a crate engine on the way before i got slapped with a 10 day notice to find a garage for it or get it inspected. so a buddy of mine came into town the weekend the engine arrived and helped me drop it in.

since this was all done outdoors, i had some trash bags stretched over the valve train just in case a badly needed rain storm cropped up.
