Performance Mods to older Carbureted Ranger?
Hi,
I'm new so sorry if a million people have asked this. What exactly can I do to my totally stock 84' 2.3 Ranger to make it a little peppier? I am told turbocharging a carbureted engine is a huge PIA/ risk. I am looking to upgrade the suspension and exhaust but what can I do to add a little torque and/or HP?
I'm waiting for the motor to blow to do a full swap but its taking a lot longer than expected and I'm not ready to just rip it out for the purpose of a swap.
Any advice?

Thanks for that info. I have been looking for answers and that seems like a good option. I am also starting to feel like it would be way cooler to mod out the original engine rather than doing a v8 swap down the road.
What kind of things can be done say if I brought it to someone to rebuild, can they actually rebuild it to be badass? And with a motor that old that's not really built for heavy performance am I asking for trouble?
I again apologize if I am really asking elementary questions but I'm a chick and my knowledge on cars only runs so deep.
Thanks again for the response, I really appreciate it.

Maybe a 38 weber.Great simple to work on carbs.Maybe just drop a 5.0 in there.I get 23-24 mpg with regular 10% ethanol on highway with a fox mustang.Any later roller 5.0 block with a t-5 tremec and maybe even a 2 barrel carb will run forever and is simple to work on.Cobra cam or an explorer cam should work well.Cast pistons would be fine on a daily driver if you dont run nitrous or boost.
