F-250 V10 No Power?
Just traded for a 1999 Ford F-250, 96,000 miles with a V-10. Low gear rear end. It drives and runs fine without a trailer hooked up to it. When my trailer carrying 2000 lbs of moweers is hooked up it is so slow on the interstate, Only run around 60 mPH with pedal to the floor. Goingup small hills it goes slower than that. What could this be, could it be the fuel filter? Any suggestions? Howhard is it to change the fuel filter? What tool do i need and can the tool be bought at Autozone or factory part only? Any help is appreciated? thanks!

If it is the fuel filter, this thread should help.

I can't help you diagnose your problem as I am not as technically adept as others here, but I can offer some suggestion on the fuel filter replacement. I did mine myself, and it wasn't as bad as I thought. You need the special "tool" -- I got mine at CarQuest because the idiot at AutoZone didn't know what I was talking about (this AutoZone sells more ricer gear than real auto gear). The AutoZone by me even gave me the wrong filter (the guy at CarQuest said it looked more like a fule filter from a Ranger than an F-250). Others here have had better results with their AutoZone stores than I.
I had to fight to insert the tool into the release area of the filter line, but I got it eventually. IMPORTANT: You need to relieve pressure from the fule lines before you do anything else. There is a Schroeder (like tires) port that you can use. I didn't know where it was located on my truck, so I relieved the pressure my own way. I pulled the fuel pump fuse (different model years have different fuse #'s -- check your manual) and let the line starve itself. Once the engine died, I let it crank for a few brief seconds. Then I cut the top off of an empty 1-gal wiper fluid jug, put a big piece of cardboard underneath it, and used that to catch whatever fuel came out. I had a fair amount of drainage, but it didn't spray all over.
I also had some problems trying to remove the plastic clip on the filter line retainer -- in the end, I broke it off & used the new one that comes with the filter itself.
I also strongly suggest changing the air filter if you haven't done so recently. I don't know what kind of driving conditions you operate in, but if I don't change my air filter every 10K, 15K maximum, I see a noticeable decrease in mileage & power.
Hope this helps -- even if it doesn't solve your problem, it's worth doing.
