$4.00 kickdown cable, forget lockar
i made my own kickdown cable to fit a edlebrock carb this week.
i have a 86 f-350 drw 351 windsor c-6 trans and a 1405 edlebrock.
being a dumptruck driver and constantly broke,( or cheap) i decided to make my own cable and save the 75 bucks for a locar.
i used a clutch cable from a old triumph and a clevis from a old dirt bike.
first i took the lever off the trans and removed the pin that the stock rod connected to.
then i put the clevis on with washers on both side and a aircraft nut.
i tightened it up enough so it would not flop around but it would still pivot.
when i reinstalled it i flipped it over so the the cable will pull it instead of pushing it like the stock rod did.
then i made a bracket to mount to the trans.
the hole for the adjusting barrel i threaded to mate the adjusting barrel.
i used the stock throttle cable braket.
i just used the hole below the bolt hole to lock in the throttle cable.
just driled that hole slightly larger and threaded it too.
the linkage on the edy has a hole on the lower side , that i used a 1/4 20 stainless allen head on.
just below the head on the shank i drilled a 1/8 hole for the cable to feed through.
i bolted it in place with aircraft nuts so that it can pivot too.
then i took the cable and cut the large barrel for the clutch lever off, leaving the smaller one for the clevis on it.
then cut the jacket to lenght and trim it up so it wont cut the cable and mount it.
the cable feeds through the hole in the 1/4 20 bolt and is held in place with brass clamp.
i may add a spring to the trans lever to help pull it back but for now it is working fine

well i may get pics as soon as i get another camera.
(my wife and her mom say i am a bull in a china shop)
if you dont want it broken dont hand it to a grunt.
any way it works pretty good.
i did add a spring to the lever on the trans to retract it all the way.
i take back my origanal post about building it for 4 bucks.
i stopped at autozone to get springs and that added $4.75 to it .
way better than locar $75.00 cable and the extra $60 bucks for brackets

yea it had that on there when i bought the truck.
it always got in a bind and fell off, then i had to put it back on .
i got tired of messing with it and started looking at the locar set-up.
i am trying to put the cash together to build one of my triumps, so i thought about a cheaper alternitive
