Amber running lights/turn signals

I've replaced the clear lenses on the '62 F350 and noted that they were available in clear and Amber. I replaced with clear to match what was existing on the truck. Now I was told (at the local parts house)that the amber bulbs are not available any longer or were originally clear bulbs. I thought that all turn signals/running lights in the US were Amber. I have seen them available from OPG but thought I would ask and confirm that these were suposed to be amber bulbs?? Right?

I just bought some amber bulbs for my '69 Mustang at AutoZone. Should be the same bulb. Check this link:

Bulb industry numbers: 1157 = Clear / 1157NA = Amber.

Clear bulbs were used with amber lenses, amber bulbs were used with clear lenses.

Thanks ND!
That is what I figured but wanted to make sure. They do look unique with the clear bulbs installed though, just not kool enough to risk a pull over by the local "Deputy Dog"!

Clear lenses and clear bulbs are factory correct for all '62 and earlier vechicles. Tom

I did

It does not say what was the first year for amber bulbs, but you may be correct, as the law governing amber bulbs occured around this time frame.

Actually there is not a law governing the bulbs themselves. What the Federal regulation sayes about forward facing park and turn lights is "any color between clear and amber". For rearword facing turn and brake lights the regs say "any color between amber and red".

Amber bulbs came along about '64 or '65 for those who wanted that color on older vechicles as at that point in time there were no aftermarket amber lenses for older cars and trucks. Tom
