DAMNED PINGING IS DRIVING ME NUTS......
Help.. Please I have aa 98 expey 5.4 eddie bauer my wife just loves and it is pinging like a coffe can full of bb's every time you touch the accelerator I've been getting an intermittent code for bank 1 too lean and bank 2 too lean I have changed the Pcv and associated hoses (rotted out) that helped with the codes for a while but now they are back constant will not go away, I can find no vacuum leaks! I am a diesel guy and my gas mechanic is on vacation, my wife loves this thing and won't drive any thing else without the use of a cattle prod, " it's red and pretty".....the 99 is exactly the same to the presets on the radio, she says "it's ugly and green they changed the whole car that year, I won't drive that ugly thing fix mine,....please"........HELP!.....PLEASE!

Yes a stuck open EGR valve can cause pinging because it raises the combustion chamber temperature. But with these engines the EGR ports tend to plug up with carbon, which is the opposite effect. It couldn't hurt to check the EGR valve for proper operation.

Pinging can also be caused by a lean mixture due to a malfunctioning MAF, fuel delivery issues, vacuum leaks (i.e, combustion air not passing through the MAF), excessive oil consumption, etc.
Your rig should also have a knock sensor.
Do you have any other DTCs or pending DTCs?
