4.9 EFI top end on an old 240?

Anyone ever tried this? I wouldn't mind EFI on my rig, and should probably just swap in a whole EFI 300, and I am equipped to do so. But I do suspect that my engine is a 240, and will try some rudimentary stroke-measuring through a spark plug hole one day soon.

But then I got to thinking that swapping the head and manifolding onto my 240, along with the wiring and fuel system, would be a kind of neat, and maybe a slightly easier, (no front clip removal) way to go.

Would any of the EEC IV controls work on a 240? I take it they're all MAP Speed Density based systems?

What about the OBD2 Mass Air system?

Heya meangreen,
From what I know, the 300 was speed density from 87 until 95. In 96, it was mass air, but those are pretty rare (but very cool if you can find one). I don't see any reason the EFI system wouldn't bolt right up to the 240. About the only thing I would think you would need to do is maybe smaller injectors? Dunno. But it would definitely be a cool setup.

I've also thought about adapting a CFI from an '80s 3.8 V6 as well, but would need some sort of 2V manifold...

I do not like CFI, especially the 3.8 CFI. I saw a five ratio! A/F spread at some operating points on the dyno.

Yikes. That's a shame, because I'd think it would/could be a pretty good setup. I guess that's why those don't have a particularly good reputation. I wonder if an aftermarket EFI control kit would make it work better.

RE the later EFI, it's not as easy as simply throwing in a smaller injector to address the missing 60 inches³ of displacement on a 240? Wouldn't the EEC need some recalibration for this? That would be enough to get me to just install the whole 4.9, which would be better anyway.

Hmmmm. I wonder if you could get one of the OEM 4.9 EECs to control three CFIs arranged in a 'three deuces' configuration? That would take some E-tuning for sure, but be about as cool as could be if it worked...

Seems to me it would be easier to swap the whole engine then you would have the 240 to sell or whatever you want to do with. You won't need the mechanical fuel pump for the efi of course. Old carburated 240's or 300's are pretty hard to find.
