Best 6.0 Oil??

I now own my first 6.0.... What's the best oil to run in it... I've been told to ONLY use Ford PSD oil for 6.0 and not to run Rotella (aerates to easily), is this true or BS?

I run Rotella Synthetic in my 7.3 w/o any issues and I know others who use Mobile Syn Diesel oil.... Just want to run the best so I get logevity outta the 6.0

Find the person who told you never to use Rotella in a 6.0. Take a picture of him and write down his address so you never forget him. Now, run Forrest, run away from that evil stupid man!

Mobil 1 for Turbo Diesel Trucks is a fine oil as is Shell Rotella T6. I used TDT back when it was the same formula as Mobil Delvac 1.

Delvac 1 is probably the best diesel engine oil, but it's expensive. I consider Mobil 1 for turbo diesel trucks and Shell Rotella functionally equivalent. Both show excellent performance in 6.0 engines. You can buy a gallon of T6 at Walmart for $20.56.

I don't use Delvac 1 simply because running extended oil change is a really poor idea. Group IV synthetics like Delvac 1 make economic sense for long change intervals. Less expensive Group III + oils like TDT and T6 give you the cold start / cold weather benefits and w40 high temperature performance without the extra cost of a long oil change interval Group IV oil being dumped every 5,000 or 7,500 miles.

This thread will be three pages long before the weekend is over..

Personally, I've been running Mystic JT8 synthetic blend 15W40 late spring to late fall (warm months) for almost 70k miles. At $12 gallon at my local farm & ranch stores, and meeting the CJ4 requirements...I'm happy and the truck is happy.

I have been using Rotella T6. I am very happy with it. Ford diesel mechanic suggested it as a good product. His 23 years working on diesels speaks volumes for me.

Any major brand with the CI4 plus rating or higher will work fine. I'm currently using Valvoline Premium Blue 5W40. Napa had a sale on it. I've also used the T-6 with excellant results.

I just read that Ford says it's Diesel Syn Oil can be used in temps from -20 to 100deg.. I also read a couple posts where there was concern about using a 5w40 Syn in temps above 90 deg..

I really don't want to worry about changing oil with the seasons... If Rotella Syn CJ fits the bill, that's what I'll run..(my 7.3 likes it year round).. I know the 6.0 is a different beast, so I want to be damn sure what I need to use in it...

The Rotella "aerates too easily" was an issue with rotella when Ford came out with the 7.3 psd with the HEUI injection system, but was fixed soon after. Funny how people still think this is a problem after +15 years.

More important than brand is to use a CJ4 rated oil and change it every 5k miles. My personnel belief of which oil is the best is Mobile Delvac. It uses some of the best additives and holds it viscosity better than the big 3. It returns some stellar OUA and is second to none for engine cleanliness. It's defitely a sleeper oil.

I use it and haven't had any issues. At 5k mile ooil changes it can get expensive but if you look for sales and stock up you can save up to 6-7.00 a gallon.

I am using it w/ a bottle of ZDDP - getting good UOA. My high-ish iron number that began w/ the Valvoline PBE is even coming down.

Amsoil, is what I have used in ALL my stuff for the last 10 years. Truck runs great, Harley runs great and both Toyotas run great.

I've been using the Motorcraft 15w-40. Thinking I'll use a synthetic next oil change. I think I have a little striction going on and thinking the 5w might help some on cold start. On the hot side of the coin though, high temps have been bumping 100+ around here lately. Is there a synth that will work well on both extremes?
