Motor is toast

Yesterday I was running some errand's and the motor started missing and blueish smoke started pouring out the tailpipe. Got it home and it sounded like something was kind of banging inside the motor, pulled the oil fill cap and alot of smoke was coming out in puffs and cap will not stay on upside down so I figured possible cracked piston.
Couldn't come at a worst time, waiting for phone call to go to work in Pa for 3 or 4 mo's at $37.50 per hour 60hr week after being laid off for 8 mo's.

So went looking for a motor and found a 94 with a 124,263 miles on it $1.500, I know I will need alot off my old motor but is there any thing else I should be concerned about. Also a 2000 with 220K with a 30 day warranty $2,700, 97 with 140K for $1,900, 99 motor 167K $2.249 90 day warranty.

Already have another truck lined up to drive to Pa and a buddy said he would pull my motor for me while I'm gone and he and I will stuff another in it when I get back.

Would like some input.

Give me a call and we can go over the differences in years you will need to be prepared for.

Remember that you can get a crate motor from Ford for about $4500 and it comes with a 1 year unlimited mileage warranty.

If you aren't in a bind for time I would just pull and rebuild your own.

Looks like the '97 is the best deal of the three for the money....sight unseen. Is the '94 an IDI???

I think that should be the big question.

Of course if it's a cracked piston, a rebuild kit is only around $1,000 or so I believe. Clay could tell you for sure.

Not sure where you are, but,
Ford 7.3 powerstroke diesel runs

This one might be a good deal,
7.3 powerstroke out of an 99 F 250

Just depends on how far away you are.

That second motor would be great but I live just outside of Cincinnati, Ohio.
If just some way to get it out here, I've got the money for the motor.

Thanks

Thanks Clay, one thing is I don't really have a place to rebuild a motor, that buddy said he would pull it but don't have the room to rebuild it and right now I am out of a truck and will be going to back to work in a few days. A friend said I could barrow one of his for a while.

Pull it and have the machine shop do the assembly/rebuild I just finished mine and had it done that way I've been doing that for years, always good results total cost to me with stage 1's and new chip 3700.00. Including 1 sleeve .010 on all 8 no head work they were flat and had good margins.
