Flatbed to frame mounting

Hey All,

A friend is going to make up a flatbed frame for my '53 F250. I have all sorts of diagrams and pictures I've found here (thanks guys) and on the web, but none show the dimensions of the horizontal boards that run along the frame the flatbed frame sits on, nor a view of any mountings. How the bed sits on the sticks is not a problem, it's how the sticks sit on the frame I cant find. Anyone have a chassis book they can copy those few pages from for me, or a couple decent pics of those sticks on the frame without the flatbed frame sitting on it? Any pics or drawings of the sticks I can see don't take into account the curve/hump of the frame over the rear axle.

Thanks for the help.

thanks, i can see large long bolts and plates, that's not the problem. do them sticks ride ON the frame? just inside the frame on the cross braces? shimmed front and rear to raise them above the hump in the frame for the rear end? that's what's got me stumped.

I took the flatbed off by 55 F250 and sitting directly on the frame was basically a 2x4that was cut for the hump in the frame. It was almost completely cut through at the top of the hump. I think it was about a 2x4, it was a long time ago and I don't think I have any pictures of that.

That board just sat on the frame with no support except for the 4 U-bolts....Dang, I wonder if I have any photos I took with my SLR....I don't think I had a digital camera when I took the frame off, now I'm going to have to go look.

It's actually closer to a 4x6 piece of lumber that is cut to the shape of the frame rails, then held down by the u-bolts. It's just a matter of holding one up to the frame rail and doing a tracing, then cutting. After you make one, cut the second one to match. You might have to make a few clearance notches for rivet heads or brackets, etc.

There's a picture in my garage of the boards. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/g...52%20Merc.html

Thank you !!
That's pretty much exactly the info I was looking for. You confirmed what I had in mind for the supports. I may use a 4x6 for my bed supports as it just seems goofy to depend on a 2" thick stick to support the weight of a loaded bed, and the Ford dimensions show 13+" between frame and top of the finished bed. Probably a bit overkill but we shall see what fits/works best.
