BUILD THREAD: Bringing a '76 back from the dead (Pic. Heavy 56K BEWARE)

No posts in two months...
BUUTTTTT.. finals are done and christmas break has begun soo we have a couple updates.
I was finally able to get the engine on a stand:
It wasn't too pretty looking on the inside:
Right before it got dark I was able to remove both the doors.. and no more toolbox:
So far it's been small victories, but the project is still pushing along. I'm still stripping down the engine so it can be shipped off to be built. Next up is removing the bed and removing more rivets on the chassis.

My dad has been so kind as to make sure I'm limited on time to get some work done. I had to help him at the shop since his only employee (my oldest brother) is on vacation. With only a small amount of time before darkness sets in, I'm not where I'd like to be, but it's still moving.
Windshield is out and the cab has been fully stripped besides seat belts and back glass. I need to go buy the right torx nut to remove those.
I found a little of my grandpa's creativity.
Whatever works right?
I'm still working on the bed removal. Almost 40 years of rust really takes a toll on those bolts. I had to drop the side gas tank because my cheater bar was just a bit too long. I also started grinding on the two bolts that don't have nuts attached at the bottom, and I got around to removing the tailgate and almost all the trim on the body.
Until the next update... Have a Happy New Year everyone!

Hmmm.. seems I forgot to post. I've been busy since school has started back up. I ended up actually removing the bed all by my lonesome with only some 2x4s and a creeper. That means no excuses for all you guys out there. Nah... jk. I got around to removing only a couple of the rivets off the back end, and I'm debating whether I want to proceed with doing that or not. I'm not all that comfortable using 3/8" bolts even if they're grade 8. Do others drill the holes out to 1/2" or am I just over thinking this?
This is how I left it:

I'd say for crossmembers 3/8" is ok. For spring hangers, I would go with 1/2". ....but that's just me. If you don't need to remove rivets, why bother? The bolt eventually has a chance to loosen up. The rivet won't. If you DO cut the rivets out, use red loctite putting it back together.
Keep up the good work. Slow and steady wins the race.

Just an FYI, when I was tearing my dent apart, I found using a 50/50 mix of tramnsmission fluid and acetone worked wonders on rusted bolts. I put the mix in a glass cleaner spray bottel, and labeled it.
Keep up the good work, the progress never goes as fast as we like. It's also nice that you were able to get your Pap's truck, gives it that much more meaning. Don't forget to keep us posted we like seeing another dent getting fixed up, and you know how well we like the pictures!!!

Nice progress so far. I can totally understand the feeling of working on your grandpa's truck, as I am currently reviving a 74 F100 that dad bought new. Ironically, it looks very similar to your truck, right down to colors. Different shade of green being the only real difference. It got parked in 2007, but for a much different reason.

Don't want to confuse anyone by inserting a photo of such a similar looking truck, if you know what I mean....
Once you have it back on the road, just driving it will always bring back memories of time gone by. Keep up the great work!
