05 uneven rear pad wear

On my 05 XLT suprecab 4x4 with 70k miles I have been hearing some noise from the brakes, I removed and inspected the rears and found that the inner pad on the driver rear was worn all the way down while the outer and 2 other pads on the pass side were not even 1/2 worn. I did the brakes myself about 30k or so ago. The caliper is sliding freely on the pins and there seems top be no other binding or obstruction.

Anyone have an idea or had this happen? I will have to install new rotors and pads and don't want this to happen again.

As far as replacements I was thinking the standard EBC oe replacement rotors and Hawk pads again, any other economical good choices out there?
thanks
Vic

I have had an issue with this also. The brake pads must slide freely on the stainless steel guides at each end. But the caliper tends to rust beneath the stainless steel and as it rusts it expands and binds the movement of the pad. Take this stainless steel guide off and wire brush the rust beneath it when you change the pads.

You more than likely have a piston sticking inside the bore of your brake caliper. The fluid accumulates moisture, and also oxidizes over time. The brake system also builds up sediment from the fluid and seal material breaking down, the sediment builds up in the calipers causing the square seal to fold when applying the brakes but does not return as the seal gets caught up with the sediment. This is why I suggest a brake fluid change every year. At the last shop I worked at we had a sweet system that can suck out all of the nasty crud and fluid built up inside of the reservoir so you don't push it through the entire system.then it would flush the rest of the fluid out with a quart of DOT4.

Always make sure your slides and moving parts are properly lubricated. Usually when you have a pad sticking inside the pads mounts or "grooves" you will end up with tapered wear as one end of the pad sticks but the other does not. If the pad is worn down fairly even from top to bottom you will know the pad is sliding properly and has an issue inside the caliper.
