Fuel systems and California

I'm wondering if anyone has gone through smog with fuel system mods. If so, what are your mods and how did you do?

I do not have any fuel mods, but I do know that the smarter shops DO look for them. They are not OK unless there's a CARB number for them.

Sorry for not answering from the pool you wanted to hear from.....

Thanks Pop, that's what I'm thinking also.

And don't worry, your comments and insight are always welcome.

Ya' know, I'd bet that if the fuel mods were done all with factory-looking, formed steel tubing, it would be really rough to discern. "AN" fittings are out. Nothing fancy might just play.

my old shop i worked at has started smogging diesels: he said:" no smoke- no check engine light- nothing to obvious-pass."

when i was in smog school 2yrs. ago they were just starting to formulate a plan of action for diesel smogs, in ca. what a load of bs that whole program is. find a good shop that knows diesels. shouldn't be that difficult.

where you located? in norcal- sac area?...i got some buddies...

I've thought the same thing. Only problem is that i don't want something too complicated if I have to reverse it to pass.

My Ford is smog exempt with 15,000 VW, but went for smog with Mercedes diesel. From long list of items only 2 applied to my model:
-vacuum connections.
-O2 sensor connections
They didn't even plug-in scanner.
What a waste of money.

What about having stage 1 injectors and running a Dp tuner set at stock modified?

Hide your DP switch (hopefully you don't have the gauge mounted switch) and you'll be fine.

It is not mounted yet.

I failed smog once due to a glow plug code. So ,while I did the glow plug replacement I checked my injectors and found 2 that were not pumping oil.
Now that I found Riffraff and 2500 later here is what is coming.

Stage one injectors.
F5 Tuner
Gauge led switcher
HPX
FRX
6637 Filter
AIH delete Plug
Quick drain valve
650 custom dash kit with 6 switches
And the AE ford program.

So Im thinking to put in the injectors and hide the gauge
, pass smog and then install all the goodies.

Got mine smogged here in CA and thats how mine was treated.

He let it idle. No CEL.
He gave it some pedal. No smoke.
He checked for obvious modifications. None.

Pass. Took about 20 mins.
