Can my truck be made as powerful as a 2007 6.7 Cummins tubo diesel?
I test drove a 2007 Cummins today and was blown away by the motor, but hated the rest of the truck. 17mpg. Got back in my truck, felt it was slow and sluggish after driving the Dodge.
I have a F350 7.3 made 01/99, auto trans, 285 tires, 3" lift, mostly stock. 13 mpg.
The Cummins has 350HP and 650 foot pounds of torque. My 99 is either rated at 235 or 250hp with only 500 foot pounds of torque.
What mods would I need to make to reliably and safely gain that much additional power? Would the transmission hold up? Where do I start?

First off get you a good air filter on it. You can do the 6637 6637
air filter best one out there for the money. Then put some gauges in it and get you a Dp-tunerDP Tuner
and a good 4'' mbrp S6200AL ex on it and i think you will be very suprised with what you drive then. Or just give Clay a call at riffraff and he tell you what you need to do.

transmission is the weak link in these trucks. go to BTS and get your trans built to take care of that.....
to make the dodge #'s youll need stage 1 single shot injectors and a different turbo. you could put a drop in 38r in there but i like the h2e better. have had both and prefer the h2e. more cost for the h2e but a better tubo. seeing as how you have an early 99 if you get the h2e setup all you will need is a set of 3" plenums aside from the h2e kit. a regulated return system for fuel will help as well. with those item you will hit the 375hp mark. with all of that your looking at about 9k to do all those mods including the trans......
oh and just my opinion but dodge=***!

Yes, anything after 12/8/98 is a late 99 for the engine and sometime in April I think for the chassis.

Here's what I did to get 350 hp and 700 ft/lb torque
6637, AIS or AFE intake
4" exhuast
tranny upgrades
Swamps 175/146 single shot injectors
T. Wildman Chip/tuner (www.totaldieselperformance.com - free reburns)
Van turbo
regulated return
gauges (EGT, boost & tranny temp)
There a a few different ways to get there - also, higher HP if desired. Mostly depends on your budget.
