Hello and welcome to FTE. I think you'll find a lot of information here.

Don't forget Northern Classic in Michigan for some of the sheet metal. They make their parts there & are really nice people to work with.

You can try these guys for a dropped axle....I haven't heard anything about this company, but their website seems to make it look like they know what they're doing:
Dropped axle Axles Axel

Welcome Fullbore, What part of MI are you in? I am in West Michigan. There are a few of us around the state that have good used parts and some new stuff sitting around. If you need some help feel free to ask here on FTE. There are some great guys and gals around that know their stuff. If you are close by, more than happy to lend some opinions and help. Good luck on your purchase. And tell the wife, the truck is $300, the parts are $3000 and the experience of driving the truck - priceless.

it's a straight 4 inch chop. previous owner done it..... even sliced the roof down the middle and widened it to avoid tweaking the posts inward... there are some pics in my profile and I will send you a couple to your email... I am a hardcore darksider and may have just secured a rather unusual chassis for it....

Sorry about the hi-jack....

well looks like im going to be restoring a 56 instead of this 54 ,found a local guy with a super solid and complete 56 i bought today, so im listing for sale, i paid 300.00 for the truck and another 380.00 in fuel to get the thing (f350 wth a 460 and 4.56 gears) so its for sale for 680.00 FIRM clean clear title, guess if i cant sell it i will park it out back and mess with it next year
