I looked at the back of the vinyl gas tank cover and written on the back is DSO 74006. What are your thoughts on that?

DSO 74 is Seattle.

The DSO on the warranty tag is a 6 digit number as well, 720085, which according to info NumberDummy posted before would mean this was a special ordered vehicle out of San Jose. Correct?

Sorry I disagree. Is it possible you inadvertently tried using 1973/79 parts? I know that Ford changed the 1973/79 clips twice, one in 1983, again in 1986.

1964/72 Ford Truck Parts Catalog: Look at the illustrations of the two tailgates and attaching parts: Sheet Metal section pages 27 & 28.

Now, look up each individual part number, you'll discover all are the same: 1964/66 F100/250 2WD, 1966 F100 4WD, 1967/72 F100/350, expecting the tailgates themselves.

1973/79: Only the tailgate supports (C4TZ-9944400-A) are the same, everything else is different.

I agree and have used the tailgate off one model for a different many times.

It looks like here lately if you got a CS 250 with bench seat now that is Rare!I think if the truck is a F-100 and got the original "Ranger" emblems on it and the data plate matches up,then that is a real "Ranger".I always thought the reason CS's had bucket seats was to give easy access to the camper through the back window!!!Sorry just my thoughts on this Ranger stuff, not trying to offend anyone.

Any more updates to this intriguing dilemma?
Good work to everyone who chimed-in here as the rest of us get to learn something in the process.
Many thanks to all.
