Clutch and brake pedal problem

88 F-150, manual of course, whenever I step on the brake, the clutch pedal goes up, and when I press the clutch, the brake pedal goes up. Is this a normal problem, and how hard is it to fix?

Clutch and brake pedal problem

Check the bushings on the shaft going from the the clutch pedal across to where the clutch master cylinder goes through the firewall. These bushings could be worn down, causing the movement in the pedals. My '87 does the same thing slightly.

Clutch and brake pedal problem

I went out and took a look at it- it's my buddy's truck, so I was only told about the problem, and hadn't had a chance to look. Come to find out, it is the plastic bracket in there, that is also the dash support, lower steering column support, etc, etc. I realize this is going to be a major PITA to fix, anybody done it before? This thing is really bad, and causing a clutch pedal bind. Is it possible to retrofit an older steel support?

Clutch and brake pedal problem

I haven't had much experience with my '87, but the clutch return spring broke off the pedal bracket in my dad's '92. The bracket set above the steering column, and it took us a while of trying to work the pedal bracket out that we figured out how to get the steering column out of the way. Like I say, this was a 92 which looks much different than my 87, so I'm not sure how similar they are. It really wasn't hard once we figured out how to move the steering colum. Don't know if this will help, but good luck!

Clutch and brake pedal problem

Are 89 f150 done that I found it easier to remove the column. I am no mechanic but thought it was pretty easy with just basic tools.
