What would cause blue smoke?

Injector o ring seals, or a bad turbo seal would be my most likely cause right?

I used to just get a quick puff of blue on start up, but now it will usually last the length of the high idle time...

Its really annoying me now, so I am going to try and solve the problem.

Truck still runs great with no codes.

Any ideas...Thanks

I have no problem replacing the injector 0 rings, or rebuilding the turbo completley.

I would think that the exhaust/turbo would have to be quite hot to burn oil that the turbo would leak. Not sure if that would be possible on a cold start. I would think that the oil would have to be getting into the cylinders and burned at startup to smoke that early...

easy way to check the turbo is loosen the downpipe and look for oil. if non is present then try injector o rings

I will check that asap, just pull it off and look into the down pipe?

Now...the weirdest thing is when I plug my egr valve back in...it smokes blue from every stop I make.

I unplug it and it will only smoke for a few minutes in the morning.

it could be a base engine problem like leaky valve seals. are you consuming oil? with damaged o-rings you would get fuel in the oil symptom

unless you deleted it I would look close at the egr cooler.as for the turbo also take a mirror and look into the ehaust side of it.if its leaking slightly you'll see an oil swirl on the housing.

Alright, I will check the down pipe.

I do not believe I am using oil, if I am its not enough to register on the dipstick.

I just put in a new EGR valve. a few weeks ago

Smell the smoke. Burning oil smoke and unburnt fuel smoke can be difficult to tell apart. If it smells like diesel, it's probably unburnt fuel, and you might just have sticky injectors on a cold start.

I wouldn't think it's good for the motor, it's an exhaust treatment...not fuel supplement. You might ask that type of question over in the 6.7L forum

2011 6.7L Ford Diesel - Ford Truck Enthusiasts Forums

Lord help us if they ever decided to require us to retrofit something like that to our 6.0L (I'm not knocking the 6.7L in anyway).
