I have a 2003 f250 that is starting to get the typical door rust on the front doors pretty bad and was looking to get it fixed. does anybody know where to get new door skins or repair panels for the doors? i cant seem to find any or do i just have to make a new?
Are we talking about the bottom of the doors here? I found the weatherstripping is a big part of the problem. It tends to hold dirt and water and salt nasty in there rotting out the doors. I removed my and simply flush it by hand when it gets dirty, and then respray it with fluid film.
its surface rust currently thats on very thin metal close to being pin holes and i also took out my weather stripping just keep it clean! Just looking to get the rust taken care of before it gets to bad
if you knw how to paint I would suggest you fix it yourself. Go to walmart and buy yourself a can of rustoleum rusted metal primer, a prep pad or 200 grit sand paper, 600 grit, 1000, and 2000 grit. I used that primer on my truck 2 years ago and them sprayed over it with the matched color to my truck and it works awesome. Turns the iron oxide into iron phosphate and then just sand smooth. if you lived in michigan I would say bring it to me and I would do it for ya you just buy the paint and beer lol
lol i live in ohio so not to far away but that actually what i did last weekend just didnt know how long it would last the rust was pretty bad so im looking for new doors or repair panels
If the rust is getting bad or coming from the inside out, you probably would find used doors and have them painted cheaper than new door skins, that is a lot of work. Have a pair shipped from a dry state maybe? We get parts shipped from salvage yards all over the US
yeah thats what ive been trying to do is find some doors just seems alot cheaper to do the skins everybody ive talked to wants 1200+ for a set of doors.
I just bought a 2001 and had the same rust issue on the bottom of the doors. I used a wire brush to clear the loose rust/debris and applied POR 15 per the manufacturer's directions. Once cured, I sprayed Fluid Film rust inhibitor into the drain holes at the bottom of the doors until it dripped from the hole on the opposite end of the door. I picked this up from another forum. The folks there seemed to have good things to say about it, so I gave it a shot. Time will tell......
They recommended applying the Fluid Film every six months or so.
Did the same thing as sleeper75 but with Rust-Bullet, both are great products. After you get all the loose rust off these rust preventors dehydrate the rust so it can't keep rusting. R-B is a sponsor here up top so read what they do, lots of info, good luck..
