1) 10k miles on Michelin tires balanced...No better<O></O>
2) Front and rear u joints replaced..No better<O></O>
3) Bushing on transmission yoke to Drive shaft replaced...no better<O></O>
4) Rotated tires front to back... No better<O></O>
5) Jacked up backend 1 inch off ground and spun wheels up to 80 mph and definitely isolated problem to rear end. Really rumbled..Same as if driving down the road<O></O>
6) Took off back tires and repeated above..Same outcome.<O></O>
<O></O>
I myself think it's a rear wheel bearing because there is slightly more slop on left rear wiggling back and forth at 12 and 6 o'clock, then the rear right. I mean slightly. Of course I am not an experienced mechanic.<O></O>

I explained all of this to my transmission guy and he said he checked it over really good also. He told me to take the aluminum drive shaft off and take it to have it computer balanced. He said probably cost around $100 bucks and this is the cheapest way to eliminate a possibility, rather than getting into the wheel bearings and seals!<O></O>

I hope he is right! I will post outcome in a few days
Update
Took the drive shaft off and took it to a reputable repair shop under the Ambassador bridge in Detroit. What a depressing area! They checked it out and it's slightly unbalanced and said whoever installed the new u joints hammered the hell out of it. Also the u joints are crap. They say USA on them, but that's the name of the company in China and it misleads everyone. Mechanic said if you want to totally eliminate this segment of this saga, I will intall Simons u joints and computer balance for $97 with a guarentee. I said do it!

I will update after I get the drive shaft back in the van! I am thinking about a 50/50 chance this corrects the rumble!

I'm a bit late with my reply, but I had the same issue and hope this helps. My rumble was coming from several areas. The harmonic balancer on the output shaft had failed and was wobbling. Driveline Service cut-off the balancer and balanced the drive shaft. That solved most of the rumble. The rest was a bent left rear wheel, and YES a bent left rear hub flange. The previous owner must have wacked it pretty hard on the left. I replaced the wheel, hub, bearings, and seal, and it's as smooth as it's going to be. Good Luck!

I wanted to follow up on all my posts and let people know the outcome. This is really late, however it may benefit someone.

I corrected my annoying rumble finally by swapping out the aluminum drive shaft with a used one. Van runs smooth and normal now!

The drive shaft in newer vehicles is often overlooked when vibrations or noises in the drive train begin. So far knock wood I've not dealt with any similar issues but if something crops up and a visual inspection doesn't reveal something significant I'll almost immediately suspect it.

Thanks for updating your circumstances and fix too Rusty!
