If it's in 2hi and the hubs are unlocked, then you should able to spin the front driveshaft. Watch the front axles and if you have a frozen hub you'll see it.
Also, I've never been able to feel or hear whether the truck is in 4wd. It should be quiet and smooth. You may have a frozen or stuck front u-joint.

mine started stickin in 4x high when my 13-45 t-case started goin up. in the early stages, i could get it out of 4x by rockin the truck back n forth while puttin pressure on the t-case shifter. . .later on nothin would get it into 2x except outright beastin on the handle. thats when i replaced it.
i can tell mine is in 4x4 or my hubs are locked once im at highway speed (50+). when i forget to unlock my hubs she lets me know. with your hubs unlocked (assuming you can tell and be sure they in fact are unlocked) the driveshaft will be moving when its in gear and rolling if youre in 4x.

only had the truck couple days now but went out on highway and put hubs in 4 high, turns out my new truck is just real noisy in 2wd,4wd works ok,but seems to want to pull to the right when i floor it and its a lot noisier then when in 2wd,(mega hum} kinda reminds me of a skidder or loader trannie. i will change my oils in trnsfr case and rear and front end.hopefully that will make a difference, the oil in front looks greyish black as does the rear.thnx for all your help.
