On the way home from work noticed the temp was up just a hair. Not bad at all but it did bump up a hair. Parked it at home and was throwing the ball with my dog, looked over at it and it was puking a bit of something out the over flow. Took the cap off and found this.

Yes it was.
And you have no idea how many people ask that.
Lesson learned, never again.

+1 on the victor reinz. They actually make the gaskets for a lot of oem manufacturers. I have a spare cummins victor head gasket. Other then the part number it was damn near identical.

Crap! That's a shame. Glad you could see clear to still have a reasonably good attitude about it.

I just had a brand new Felpro head gasket that didn't last 500 miles on my 400 and all I heard was good about them beforehand.

Hope that's all that's wrong with yours. We'll be waiting for the good news about your truck once you get it running in a couple of days.

Three brands to never buy for you truck unless it's a last resort. Those are Fram unless it's a paper air filter, Fel-pro, and A1-Cardone.

How come I've always heard nothing but good about Fel-Pro and now everyone is saying nothing but bad?

Remember there are lots of folks going through this forum.
If you hear 5 guys saying they suck that sounds like a lot. But there are 250 or so guys on this forum pretty much all the time. And I'm sure there are plenty of FPs out there doing just fine.
That being said, I have heard a lot of bad stuff from guys even before they knew I used FelPros. For instance WW asked if they were FPs before I said they were. So with the amount of folks having bad experiences with them you can add it up for yourself.
Also, I haven't taken it apart yet so I really don't know a thing until I do.
I do know that I will be buying the best I can in the future.

My experience is over the years. Recently comparing oem gaskets to fel-pro etc. I'll say they like to substitute just a fiber gasket where oem it would've been a metal fiber sandwich. I had a fel pro, victor and cummins gaskets on hand when I built my 6bt. By far the fel-pros were the thinnest different material and not a sandwich gasket where they should be. Now I will say victors did substitute some places as well. In example the timing cover gasket was fibre from victor and a metal fiber sandwich from cummins. For my money I would buy victor over fel-pro if I cannot get oem gaskets.

As far as Fram goes my beef is with there oil filters. They have a hot glued carboard bottom on the filter element. I've cut two apart and the carboard bottom was separated. In effect not filtering anymore. Fram is trash!!

For A-1 Cardone there rebuilds seem to be now seals and slap some paint on them. I went through three saginaw pumps and one pencil pump. They all whined no mater the bleeding etc. A1-Cardone used to be a quality rebuilder, now junk.

I have Victor Reinz in my rebuild except I used felpro's for the Valve covers that was all that was available at the time... I have since replaced the Felpro's with Milodon's after the FP's failed. The FP gaskets lasted 2000 miles and then no good.. I have 13,000 on the Milodons GTG 15,000 on the rebuild with the VR's for Head gaskets, timing cover and Oil pan,
