Exclamation Take your injectors to Jim!

Couple months back, it came to my attention that my truck was missing on an injector. because i had never done anything internal before, i was hesitant to attempt diagnostic/repair, even though Jim explained it to be fairly easy. I foolishly called a mobile repair shop, because they allowed me to get the truck fixed without the hassle of dropping it off, as i have two children under 3 years old, and this would have been a PITA... long story short, i watched the mechanic do all the work, and it was easy. after 4 hours of labor, the injector was replaced, truck was good as new. After the work was done, i got the total bill (i hadn't seen any type of estimate until now). Turns out it cost me $1100 for 4 hours labor, 1 injector, and the fact that it was a service call to my house, and not their shop. The moral? Unless you do all the work yourself, you're gonna get screwed. If you plan on having a shop do the work, just do it yourself and have Jim upgrade them for you. Don't be like me and have $1100 down the drain with stock injectors still!!!!! anyways, here's how she sounds before and after the work was done!

oh yeah sounds MUCH healthier in the second one LOL very curious to why your stock idol is at 1000 rpms???? should be about 525-550..? never the less you have a smooth running truck now.

after seeing how much you just blew on one injector, the work i did this past week alone would be enough for me to retire on if i charged the rate they was charging!!

I bought my '96 brand new in Feb '96.
April of '01 I was just out of my warranty with 50k miles on the truck and it died on the road one Sunday morning.
Had it towed to a local big truck diesel shop, that ended up charging me $1200 to swap out "One bad injector".
I went home, went online, and bought the complete 3-book repair manual set and my truck has never been to another repair shop since then.

The disease took over from there.

Stock idle is about 700-800 Steve.

I think your gauge is broke.

Wow Jim, I didn't realize you'd 'only' been doing this since '01. You've come a long way. IT's real nice to have a place a guy can trust. My thanks Jim.

Acutally as far as building injectors goes I was part time (eves and weekends) in '05 and '06. At the end of '06 I figured out that I was spending more time building injectors that at my full time job, so 12/31/06 I walked away from the full time job.
Best decsison I ever made.

Well, unless you ask the wife...

Yeah, my stock idle is usually around 700, but its around 1000 on cold starts. But Jim, let me tell you, if I EVER have injector problems again (I've already begun saving for stage 1's), no matter what it is, I'm pulling them and sending them to you! Lol

Yeah its a smittybilt... back when I killed a Kia with it I was trying to get a new one, but they haven't made them in over 10 years now. Wish they did, cause I love this one!!!
