For Bill

These are off of a parted late 70s F100. I like the look may stay with them when I get the 65 up and running. At least till they wear out.

My truck is Wimbledon white throughout but the top of the dash is Holly Green and it appears to be factory paint.

Exterior white part of the body is Wimbledon White, however, there is NO white on the interior, except the bottom part of the dash. The top dash is unpadded and metal painted Rangoon Red to match the exterior.

Bottom of dash appears to be a different white than Wimbledon. It looks as if it matches the white front bumper, which is, I guess, the elusive 'Colonial White'

I think I'm going to go with Wimbledon White on my wheels and then on my grill, bumpers and hubacaps, I'll go with a brighter white (something to approximate the Colonial White)

If I had a white truck I would paint the wheels maroon or burgundy and the hubcaps wimbleton white then I would paint the ford letters on the caps the same color as the wheels. A real vintage look and it would break up the all white color of the truck and give it some definition.

It doesn't really show all that well in my photos, but my 66 has a tan body, with white roof.

That rear bumper has been replaced with a big dent (some guy fell asleep & hit the truck in front of my place. I posted pics of it a few months ago. Hopefully, that will be repaired before long) and I don't have those obnoxious mirrors on it anymore.

I've considered painting the rims another color but have never been able to pull the trigger on the idea. The tailgate letters are red and the top half of the dash is Holly green. Either would probably be a good accent color but I kinda like the white rims with the stainless caps. I don't think I would much like white caps on white wheels for me, but that's just me.

I heard they had those wider 8" wheels on a few trucks and broncos but I have never been able to find some, I just want 2 for the rear as I have a set of 4 in 6.5" for the front, the 8" are to wide for the front as my truck is lowered some. If anyone ever wanted to trade two 8" rears for two 6.5" fronts I would do it! mine are straight and true and have new powder coat in wimbleton white.

Two of my 15x8's got bent - one from the crash, the other from a tire shop who didn't know what they were doing. A wheel repair shop built 2 new ones for me. They drilled the centers out of some old 6" rims and welded them into new 8" rims. They run straight & true and cost $75 each.
You could do the same thing with 2 of yours if you have access to a wheel repair shop.

I wonder why? Maybe it's because the widest painted steel wheel Ford offered w/the 5.50" bolt circle was 15" x 6." This wheel was introduced in 1976 and was only available as an "outie."

1977: Ford introduced Styled Steel and Styled Aluminum wheels, the same wheels were also used on Bronco's and E100/E150's.

These wheels were offered in two sizes: 15" x 7" & 15" x 8." Similar styled wheels were used thru 1996.

Thanks for the info guys, I bought 4 used wheels for the centers to do the conversion, I hear you use a chevy rim and weld in the ford center, I was going to try and do it my self but for $75 a wheel I would rather get it done! Being my truck is brown, I had the other wheels powder coated white, you have to remember if your going to go to disk brakes in the front the old 61 thru 66 style wheels wont work, you need a wheel from a 73 to 79 to clear the calipers and rotors.

Would the wheels and caps have actually been painted the same white color? (I'm thinking Wimbledon White?)

Seems odd to put white caps on white wheels...but if it was something that Ford would've done, then I'm game to try it. (If I do, I'll do the caps up right and paint them white and then add the red accents and paint in the "FORD" letters.)

I'm also not sure about all that white....part of me thinks it might be too much and then part of me thinks it might be cool.

Opinions?
shortwide, just happened to be reading the thread "'66 off original owners farm" and it occurred to me that even though you say 'white wheels and white hubcaps', the truck just might have had the argent w/red hubcaps that would have looked fine with the white wheels just like the ones shown in the above mentioned thread.

Nice '66.

I have seen numerous original trucks of various manufacture with white on white, although the lettering is usually set-off with colour or black. Personally, I'd go with a coloured or chrome cap.

I was looking for early Renegade wheels when I happened across a set of 15x8" Ford innies that were modified to fit jeep hubs. The PO bought them in the early 1960s and ran them on his CJ3A.

I have not used this paint as yet, but it is the only one that NPD lists that is called "white".

Their number is PPG-5767. It is a lacquer paint.

I am thinking I may try it tomorrow to see how well it matches, since I need a white for my lower dash and I really do not think it is Wimbledon White, since the color on the lower dash looks whiter than the white on the exterior (more like my front bumper color). I hope it is this so-called Colonial White color.

Of course, even if it matches the front bumper, I still don't know if the bumper is the right color.

One would need to find a NOS wheel or bumper and have the color duplicated to be exact. I doubt I could ever tell the diff, though!
O'reilly's sells Duplicolor "Perfect Match" Wimbledon White in spray cans on the shelf for around $8? I can't remember if it's enamel or laquer though...

Despite what I've read on this forum, I'm convinced that my wheels, grill and bumpers were (and still are) Wimbledon White.

I just bought a nice, straight set of painted bumpers from a fellow FTE member to replace my bent front bumper and rear ranch bumper and they are definitely a bright white color whereas my old front bumper is not as pure white and is more "wimbledon" colored.

Due to the fact that I have such extensive and detailed maintenance records dating back to the late sixties, and due to the distinctively patinated paint, I doubt that there was a repaint done on this truck. Of course, my records only go to 1968 and the truck is a 1966 model, so there is a chance that something could've been done to the paint in the first year of its life.

So....all that to say that I think my plan will be to repaint the wheels, grill and both bumpers in Wimbledon White and then repaint my hubcaps in Argent Silver (with the hubcaps details painted in red). I think that scheme will look good with the truck's original Wimbledon White roof and tan body.
