Sounds like the trailer wiring possibly cause a short and or some feedback to the PCM and caused it to go crazy. Everything that malfunctioned is PCM controlled.
At least the turkey baster kept the brakes quiet while they malfunctioned.

Almost sounds like a BS story, but anything is possible I guess.

Yeah , it has gotten a lot of attention on the other forum, and a few are puttin up the b.s. flag. However after checking out some of his other posts there wasnt anything to suggest that he would be that type, but nowadays you never know. There have been other stories relating to some of the same symptoms he had, so whlie it does smell a little ,there could be some truth to it. He hasnt put up another post or reply since, so hopefully there will be a follow up from him soon. He did say that the brakes were very quite through the whole ordeal so obviously I was mistaken about those turkey basters( perfect description lol ), they were worth every penny fords engineers spent on them !!

I had to study it a while before I found the place to put the 10 mm wrench. After that, the hard part was finding a 10 mm wrench in my toolbox.

It is a vibration damper as stated in the replies above. Perhaps Ford changed compound in their pads, or maybe they just got tired of spending warranty money on "my brakes make noise, something must be done!.
my wifes 2016 volvo xc90 is that way in the cold too. my f150 is quiet in all situations
I will say that the brakes on my 2010 F-150 are MUCH quieter than the brakes on my 2010 BMW 535xi where. That car actually hurt your ears when you stopped on a cold wet day and BMW said about the squeal? "Nothing we can do".

I'd say the damper works great on my truck...

my wifes 16 volvo xc90 is like your bmw in that regard. brakes amazingly tho.
