fumoto valve - nipple or no?
#17
I went with no nipple for less protrusion but agree with the others that something grabbing that nipple is unlikely. Our diesel car has the nipple but the drain is on the back of the oil pan and the whole thing is covered by an aluminum skidplate.
Regardless of which type you choose spray the valve out with brake cleaner before opening to reduce oil sample contamination.
I change the oil in the yard (driveway isn't flat) and it is usually windy here. No problems with that though because I drain into empty 2.5 gal rotella jugs and the neck is right at the base of the valve.

Sorry to hijack the thread guys but I have been wondering this since I put my valve on. When you change the oil, after the bulk of the old oil is out do you remove the valve to allow the remaining oil to flow out? I didn't actually measure how far the valve sticks up inside the pan but it seems that it would hold some old oil along with all of the nasty stuff in the bottom of the pain?

I voted nipple because i like nipples but mine does not have one, I like the idea of being able to hook a hose up to it for draining but Im too cheap to buy another one. lol
I have a large piece of cardboard I put under the truck when changing the oil to catch anything that might get splashed around.
