'04 250 Misfiring?

good day all,

I took my truck in for oil change and brakes today... and the mechanic that pulled it in called me and said it was misfiring and didn't have the power it should. He isn't a diesel mechanic so can't work on it, but wanted to know what kinda testing I could do find out what is going on.

thanks in advance

Who did the oil change and did he use the proper oil and filter? If he isn't a diesel mechanic I'd be very leary of him touching my truck even to do an oil change.

You need to get your truck code scanned, for a start. What part of Arkansas are you in? If you're close to Ft. Smith I'd be glad to take a look at it for you.

'04 250 Misfiring?

Its not that he wasn't a diesel mechanic,

I take it to the Grease Pig... they do Oil Changes, Transmission flush, brakes... but not in depth Mechanical work...

Let me get it scanned and see what it comes up with...

I am in Fayetteville,

Sounds like a good chance they used aftermarket filters - if they did .... not wise to leave them in there.

Just up the road from me a piece. If you get into something serious I do work on these things for very competitive prices if you're willing to drive down the hill.

misfiring...

took my truck to Autozone today to have it code checked to see what would show up and nothing showed up on the scan results.... guess it is back to the drawing board on figuring things out...

my next step is to check my FICM.

ok.. tested the FICM this past weekend... all was good...

key on - tested out at 49 volts
Started - tested out at 50.2 volts

still don't know what to do...

Is there a way for me to test for sticking injectors?

thanks..

Can you hear,or feel it missing?. For the longevity of your truck stay away from the jiffy lube type places.not saying they're all bad,but there's a little more to a six litre than meets the eye, kinda like the transformers.

not real sure...

This is my first Diesel, and have only had it about 8 months. This is what I was told where I get my oil changed.

I don't know what a mis-firing should feel or sound like...

next thing i'm gonna do is Youtube it...

The engine will jump just a little bit,and the exhaust note will sound as if its got a dead spot in it.does it feel any different to you since the oil change?.

your the second person that asked about the oil change... honestly I don't remember... but I got my oil changed at a place called the grease pig.... do you think that the oil filter they put it is causing some issues.? any suggestions on a replacement?

thanks,

Brook

These six liters are rather particular about oil and filtration, and although I don't know anything about "The Grease Pig" I would imagine they are using generic aftermarket filters. If you are particularly unlucky, they might not even be saavy enough to know that these motors need a certain type of oil. For peace of mind, I would ask them what they put in your truck. If there's any doubt as to whether it was the proper oil and filter GET IT OUT OF THERE IMMEDIATELY!
