Question Excursion HPOP Reservoir Gasket 7.3L

Does anyone know for sure which is the correct gasket to use, the one with the mesh filter, or the one without?

I have a 2000 Excursion 7.3L with a build date of 10/99

F6TZ-6619-AA (without)
YC3Z-6619-BA (with mesh filter)

You SHOULD have the one with the screen.

The one without is for the '96 - '99.5 7.3L diesels and they are not interchangeable, and since there is no E99 Excursion, you SHOULD be safe in ordering the one with the screen.

Stewart

Edit: It's a bit of work, but if you wanted to make absolutely sure, you can pull yours.

Edit 2: Why do you want a new gasket?

Thanks Stewart, I was thinking the same thoughts. I already ordered and received the one with the mesh filter, but wasnt sure it was correct after seeing the other part# and want to get everything to the mech all at once - went ahead and ordered the one without the gasket too about 10 minutes ago - so now I should be covered, just didn't want to wait an extra day or two for this one to arrive

Need a new HPOP and some sites say to order the HPOP reservoir gasket as well for the swap.

Whoa, hold the horses here for a second please.

Why do you think you need a new HPOP?

How did you (or someone else, mechanic, etc) determine you need a new HPOP?

Get no power while on the throttle, foot on the gas and the whole truck shakes. At first it wouldn't go above 60 or so, would hit the gas and Rpms would just stop not be able to generate any further power. Changed the IPR, ICP, and CPS. I still get the high/low range ICP codes. First night the IPR was changed I got it up to 90mph but got a little shake right at the top and I let off the gas. Next day back to square one and has seemed to get progressively worse, almost wasn't able to make it up a hill by my house not even going 20mph

What do you think? Hpop seems logical (mech said he thought it would be that even before switching out all that stuff). Only other thing I would think would be injectors?

Your mechanic is an idiot then. He does this professionally and he's gonna GUESS that your HPOP is bad? Dude, run from him...fast.

If that last sentence is harsh, maybe I misread what you were trying to convey when you said the mechanic "guessed."

What kind of testing have you done to ascertain your HPOP is bad?

Unless you're so well off financially that you don't care about throwing money at your truck to try and fix it, I humbly (but strongly) urge you to post about your problem in the 7.3L forum.

When you do, please try to answer the questions posted. In your previous thread (the starting issues thread) you never answered my questions and you didn't tell us how you determined your Ex had been modified to use a GPR and not the GPCM.

HPOP's rarely are the problem, yet mechanics will point to them as being the source, charging a ton of money to customers who don't need a new HPOP.

Thanks Stewart I will post in the 7.3 section. As far as the GPR goes, the truck was definitely changed to the relays instead of the GPCM. The module is nowhere in sight, and the who relays are definitely there . Wired up a switch to manually work the glow plugs on and off (also tied into the IAH. I do get the codes for the GPCM module no communication with the PCM. But the glow plugs do work, and the truck starts fine - so I think we solved the cold starts. This seems like an entirely different issue. Appreciate the input.

Good info, good to know.

Please do post in the 7.3L forum. If it is your HPOP (rare) we can help you determine if it is, or if it's something else.

Thanks. Haven't hit the 7.3L forum yet. I usually start here in this forum or the staff area.

The only way to test a HPOP is with a mechanical gauge. If you have auto egenuity you can take the IPR and ICP readings, but they aren't a true measurement of the HPOP PSI Does it smoke when it shakes and stumbles? What color is the smoke if it does? Did you buy the cheap ICP sensor and pig tail?
